Veronica Wiggins, who built the FAMU softball program into a perennial powerhouse during her two decades as head coach, has been selected for induction into the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame, the organization announced Friday night in Las Vegas.

Wiggins, who led the Rattlers from 1990 to 2010, won more than 700 games and captured 13 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championships. Under her guidance, FAMU made 11 appearances in the NCAA tournament, and she was named MEAC Coach of the Year five times.

Her induction into the NFCA Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026 places her among the most accomplished coaches in college softball history. She will be formally honored in December 2026 at the association’s annual convention in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Wiggins was known for her disciplined approach, strategic acumen, and profound impact on student-athletes, many of whom went on to successful careers in and beyond sports. Her teams were celebrated not only for their success on the field but also for their academic achievement and strong representation of the university’s values.

“This is a monumental and deserved honor for Coach Wiggins, whose legacy here is nothing short of legendary,” said Michael Smith, interim director of athletics. “She laid the foundation for excellence—in softball and in life.”

The announcement sparked celebration among former players and FAMU alumni, who took to social media to share memories and congratulate the coach who shaped so many careers.

Wiggins could not immediately be reached for comment Saturday, but in a statement released , she said, “This is not just my accomplishment—it belongs to every player, assistant, and supporter who believed in what we were building.”
