FAMU has announced a contract one-year extension for women’s basketball head coach Bridgette Gordon.  Gordon has compiled a 27–63 record over her first three seasons leading the program.

The extension, extends Gordon’s contract through April 15, 2027, with an option for further renewal. The decision reflects an emphasis on stability and academic achievement, even as the team’s competitive performance has lagged in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).

Under Gordon’s leadership, the Rattlers earned their first conference tournament victory this past season, a modest but symbolically significant milestone for a program that has struggled to compete near the top of the league. Still, the team finished the 2025–26 season 10–21 overall and 8–10 in conference play, well outside championship contention.

Where Gordon has delivered undeniable success, however, is in the classroom. The program has maintained a 100% graduation rate among players during her tenure, a point the administration highlighted in its announcement.

“Coach Gordon has built a culture of excellence that extends beyond the court,” said Athletic Director John Davis. “Her commitment to developing student-athletes who excel academically and represent FAMU with integrity aligns with the core values of this university.”

Some supporters have praised the decision to retain Gordon, citing the need for continuity and the positive trajectory of a team that remains in rebuilding mode. But the extension has also drawn skepticism from those who expected faster competitive improvement given her storied background as a former WNBA player and Olympic gold medalist.

As FAMU invests in Gordon’s long-term vision, the message appears clear: for now, educational outcomes are outweighing win-loss records.
