Nearly 400 high school football players filed into FAMU’s Bragg Stadium and football practice fields, on June 6th for first-year head coach Quinn Fordham Gray's football camp. Players traveled from across Florida and neighboring states, for the camp, many arriving before sunrise to check-in, stretch and prepare for a full day under the watchful eyes of college coaches.

For many of the teenagers in attendance, it was a chance to be evaluated. For Gray, it was an early step in building both a roster and a culture.

Events like these have become a cornerstone of modern college recruiting, particularly for programs seeking to expand their reach and identify overlooked talent. At FAMU, Gray signaled that such camps could play an increasingly prominent role in the program’s future.

He has already set his sights on growth.

Gray will host a a 7-on-7 tournament and Big Man Camp this Thursday, June 11, and  hopes to expand camp his camp into a large-scale “Mega Camp” that could draw even more prospects in the coming years.

Though the regular season remains months away, the camp underscored a central reality of college football: rebuilding efforts often begin long before kickoff, on practice fields filled with hopeful players chasing an opportunity.
