The Upsilon Psi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. at FAMU has been named the fraternity's 2026 Undergraduate Chapter of the Year, one of the organization's highest honors for collegiate chapters nationwide.
The recognition was announced Saturday during the fraternity's 85th Grand Conclave in Cincinnati, where members from across the country gathered for the biennial international meeting.
The Undergraduate Chapter of the Year Award recognizes collegiate chapters that demonstrate exceptional achievement in campus leadership, scholarship, community service and adherence to the fraternity's international and district standards.
Chartered at FAMU on May 13, 1932, Upsilon Psi has been a cornerstone of campus life for more than nine decades, cultivating generations of leaders in public service, education, business, the military and other professions.
The Chapter of the Year designation recognizes sustained excellence across all aspects of chapter operations, honoring organizations that excel in programming, service, leadership development and the fraternity's cardinal principles of manhood, scholarship, perseverance and uplift.
The award places Upsilon Psi among the nation's premier undergraduate Omega chapters following a year of distinguished achievement on campus and in the community. Chapters are evaluated on their organizational effectiveness, community impact and compliance with the fraternity's policies and expectations at the international and district levels.
The recognition also reinforces FAMU's longstanding tradition of excellence among historically Black Greek-letter organizations, whose members have long played influential roles in student leadership, civic engagement and community service.
Founded in 1911 at Howard University, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. was the first international fraternal organization established on the campus of a historically Black college or university. Today, the fraternity has hundreds of chapters and tens of thousands of members worldwide.
For the members of Upsilon Psi, the honor represents both recognition of an exceptional year and the continuation of a legacy of leadership and service that has helped shape the FAMU community.
