The FAMU volleyball team made a statement in the Southwestern Athletic Conference on Sunday, sweeping Alabama A&M, 3-0, in a showdown between the league’s top two teams at Elmore Gymnasium.
The Rattlers extended their winning streak to 10 matches with a 25-23, 25-17, 25-13 victory, moving into sole possession of first place in the SWAC standings.
The victory improved FAMU’s conference record to 11-1, 16-9 overall, and marked a significant turn in the league race. Alabama A&M, which handed the Rattlers their only conference loss of the season in September, entered Sunday’s matchup with an opportunity to reclaim control of the standings.
Instead, FAMU delivered a decisive response dropping the Bulldogs to 17-10 overall, 9-3 SWAC.
The opening set proved to be the most competitive of the afternoon, with the Rattlers edging the Bulldogs, 25-23. Once FAMU secured the first set, however, the momentum shifted firmly in its favor.
FAMU claimed the second set, 25-17, before closing out the sweep with a commanding 25-13 decision in the third.
With the sweep, FAMU not only avenged its earlier loss but also separated itself from Alabama A&M in the conference standings, establishing itself as the SWAC’s team to beat as the regular season moves forward.
NEXT UP: The Rattlers travel to Houston, TX, on November 6, to take on Texas Southern for a 6 pm. CST match up.
