Former Florida A&M quarterback Ben Dougherty signed with the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars to work as a practice squad quarterback.

Dougherty, 26, the starting quarterback at Florida A&M for the 2003 and 2004 seasons, completing a school record 62.4 percent of his passes for 5,231 yards and 32 touchdowns.

Another practice arm was needed by Jacksonville, when opening day starter Byron Leftwich went on injured reserve recently.

Doughtery joins another former Rattler quarterback, Quinn Gray on the Jaguars' roster.

See: Quinn wants to play!

  1. It's the experience from running that wide open "Gulf Coast" offense. Coach Carter is good, but Billy Joe was brilliant, articulate, colorful and his offense was hard to stop before Corbin, the BOT and Gainous administration destroyed his program. Thanks Billy! We appreciate what you tried to do for our program.

  3. r u kidding me. shootgun draws on 3 and 8. QB bootlegs on 2 & 12.

I know Billy joe was/is a legacy. BUT since my tenure, his coaching style was trash. The same thing you do to win games 10 years ago--will NOT work.

    Words from a recent grad.

  4. To 3:31 We never lost 59-7 at home to a MEAC team with Billy Joe and if his coaching style was such trash then why is Appalachian State winning with it. They won the D1-AA national championship last year and are on the verge of another this Friday night running the no-huddle Gulf Coast Offense. Obviously you don't know your football!

  5. The same offensive scheme we beat Appalachian State with in 1999 when we went to the D1-AA semi-finals, in fact.
