FAMU's prowess in the production of Black pharmacist is legendary. FAMU is now establishing its leadership in another area --- physics.
According to the National Science Foundation the nation, on average, produces 15 African-American Ph.D.s in physics annually. During the 2006=06 academic year, one-third of the nation's African-American physics PhDs were awarded by FAMU.
NSF has taken a strong look at what's going on at FAMU, and recently awarded the university a $5 million grant to establish the Center for Astrophysical Science and Technology (CAST). A major objective of the center is to increase the number of African-American Ph.D.s in astrophysics and astrochemistry. Viewed another way, FAMU is really teaching its students to look to the stars and understand what's going on.

Outstanding news for students who were rated a #2 on a scale of 1-4.
ReplyDeleteGreat job Rattlers....
ditto, 5:47. CVB had, as we all know, some very serious problems. and the #1 problem is that she hated herself. when you hate yourself, there's no space for love. I'm proud of FAMU and the direction its continuing to go, despite all of the bad things that have been said about us.
ReplyDeleteSIMPLY AMAZING OF ALL THE THOUSANDS OF COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES IN THIS COUNTRY AND ONE PRODUCES 5 OUT OF 15 PH.D'S IN ONE AREA. I AM SO PROUD OF FAMU AND LOOK FORWARD TO STARTING MY PH.D AT FAMU IN FALL 2008!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteanother round of the Fighting 2s
ReplyDeleteI am glad FAMU Physics is starting to get it's act together in a big way. It's amazing what departmental leadership can do to a program.....
ReplyDeleteWhat about training people of all color?

ReplyDeleteThey do train people of all colors. Obviously you've never been into the department, or you wouldn't have made such an asinine statement.
the quantity is amazing...
ReplyDeletewhat is the quality?
Do our physics scholars have the respect of their peers or are we just a diploma mill?
I do not mean any disrespect, I am just not familiar with the program and I am curious.

ReplyDeleteIf Harvard or someone else reported the same accomplishment, you would not have questioned the quality, even though you have no direct knowledge of their program either. If they were not producing quality grads, they would not be getting research grants and more students. Your ignorance of the subject is due to your lack of research, but instead of doing your homework, you immediately question the quality.
What a jackass.
Harvard has a certain reputation... so does FAMU... there is nothing jackassish about wondering where the program sits amongst its peers.
ReplyDeleteGet the chip off your shoulder and quit pretending to be victimized all the time.
There is definitely something asinine about asking whether FAMU's Ph.D. in Physics is a "diploma mill." Don't come here with those sorts of loaded questions unless you have some solid grounds on which to ask them.
