Former QB wasn't a team player

Former FAMU quarterback Albert Chester couldn't embrace the the "backup" label that was surely headed his way, so he quit the team.

Following his departure from the team, Chester II spoke with the The FAMUAN, the campus newspaper to proclaim he's not a quiter.

In a lengthy interview Chester used the word "I" so many times we lost count.

To be fair, Chester II, says he left the FAMU football team, without speaking to the head coach because of presistent injuries. However, he lengthy interview sheds some other insight. Here are a few excertps:

"He basically told me to prepare to be a backup," Chester said " I had the end of a short leash. In so many words he told me that I was never going to be good enough."

Chester said he decided not to disclose his injury to the coaching staff, but was surprised to find out Head Coach Rubin Carter's confidence in him was wavering.

In the 2005 Florida Classic, Chester went on to prove his leadership skills when he completed 14 of 19 passes for 164 yards along with 75 rushing yards on 11 carries and earned game MVP honors. Chester started the game, but it was Driscoll, who Carter called on in overtime that sealed the win.

"I definitely took that personal," Chester said.

"I take the game personally. I take touchdowns, losses anything within the game personal."

"I said just from a mental standpoint, it hurts," Chester said. " It was like you did it to me then, and you did it to me again."

  2. Oh, well that explains a WHOLE lot. I wasn't aware that he was a Kappa. With that said, I'm not surprised at his actions.

  3. What does being a Kappa have to do with it? Sr. and Jr. both need to pull up and move on as we have. See ya!

  4. It explains the lack of character! Mainly speaking of Alpha Xi Kappas.....not the entire frat.

  5. That is not true. You must be a wannabe that the frat can look through and knew they didn't want.

Just like with Chester, good riddance!

Anywho, this is has nothing to do with the Kappas, this was one student who was out of his element as a QB trying to be like his daddy.

  6. It's my opinion and I am entitled to it.

  7. Gutless remark and comment, I pledged another fraternity at FAMU and I have respect for a number of Alpha Xi brothers...some I could give less than a damn about, just like my fraternity.

It shows extreme cowardice to come on the internet and ridicule something or better yet, a group of people by generalizations. Then again, as you are entitled to think what you think, so are we

    Fake ass internet wannabe somebody.

  8. Chester's quitting has nothing to do with the fraternity he belongs to. What it does have to do with, however, is the young man's character. Quite simply, he was not a team player, and, quite obviously, he was all about himself. How else do you explain it? Did he think he was the first major player to be replaced in a game--football or otherwise--basketball, soccer, whatever? He's selfish, arrogant, spoiled and quite a few more things. And of all those things he is, TEAM PLAYER cannot be consigned to him. Now, it is quite possible that his injuries were severe enough to deter him from further athletic events. But I think, in my humble opinion, that he saw the headlines and articles with someone else's name in them and just couldn't handle it, so he quit. Quitters never win, and winners never quit. I think the team will do just fine without him. That's generally what happens. He's not the first injury-prone athlete to play the game and by far, he won't be the last. He has a lot of growing up to do. Perhaps he will look back on this day and understand what being a team player and showing a tad bit of gratitude and respect is all about. But just like he ended his letter, I doubt it.

  9. Everything that Chester has accomplished at FAMU just went down the drain. People won't care that he quarterbacked two victories against BCC. The main thing that people will remember about him now is that he quit on his team. He had a lot riding on his shoulders. People constantly compared him to his dad and that was wrong. If only he would have gone out with class. This was a bad move on his part and most people will remember him as a quitter instead of a winner.

  10. Chester is a spoiled brat, who hides behind what his dad has accomplished. So, when things didn't go his way, he "he quit the game, took his marbles and went home! What is that all about!

  11. I know that a day after a poor offensive game yesterday, some may have the feelings that "we needed Chester in there." But as a former high school football player; here are my thoughts. Based off of his interview with the FAMUAN Chester stated that he quit because of injuries and because of being told to prepare to be a backup. I have no issues with you leaving the game for injuries, but to leave your team, a group that you have been with for four years already because you were told to prepare to be a back up is gutless. I just hope that he wasn't at home yesterday thinking, "See, I knew I was better that Leon, they can’t win without me." If I were a player on the team I would rally around Leon now more than ever, because he didn't leave!

  12. Its interesting that I graduated from FAMU, but I follow FSU too. Drew Weatherford got benched at FSU in favor of Xavier Lee. When 'X' threw his first TD, Weatherford was the first one on the field to congratulate him. He has supported his back-up turned starter. That shows what TRUE sportsmanship is about. Of course Weatherford wants to play and start, but for the good of the team, he has accepted his role.

  13. Chester punked out big time! Spoiled brat. While his parents were teaching him about playing football, maybe they missed out on teaching him sportsmanship. If I were his significant other, I'd be kind of leery of him just walking off (or out) if things did not go exactly his way. He has a lot to learn about staying the course. I think with a lot of support the new QB will be ok. As far as Chester, I say, "good riddance." Obviously, he thought the game was totally and completely about him. What a selfish kid.

  16. this entire situation works in our favor ultimately. we all know chester's dad hung around the fieldhouse for the last four years that is the only reason he was the starter anyway. he was very overrated and very average
