Agriculture researchers at FAMU have produced a new muscadine grade that is stronger, larger and heartier than pervious varieties. The grape which will be called the "Majesty" grape is said to be more disease resistant and adaptable to the North Florida climate.
The Majesty grape is larger than traditional muscadines and nearly plum sized. The grape will have practicle applications in the production of wine, grape juice, jelly, and just plain good eating. This is the first new grape variety ever produced by FAMU.
FAMU begans to start marketing the new grape this month.
Since 1978, FAMU's Center for Viticultural Sciences & Small Fruit Research has been engaged in practicle research aimed at encouraging growth in Florida's wine industry. The Majesty grape is another step in that effort.
