New Beginnings, the FAMU day care facility, created to help student-parents balance their classes and children could be the latest casualty in a round of belt tightening that could see the center's budget sharply reduced.
New Beginnings requested $160,000 in activity and service fees for the 2008-2009 school year. However, because of tough budget constraints, the SGA activity and service fee committee is proposing giving the center only $108,000.
The potential cut is forcing the center to look at fee increases and sending them scrambling to try to looking for more grant opportunities.
New Beginnings currently serves FAMU students, faculty and community members year round. However, the center is looking at becoming a only a student-service center and closing when the University closes to cut costs.
Has anyone ever heard of the concept of running a profitable business?
ReplyDeleteGo talk to someone at SBI and quit looking for a handout.
This is a valid business opportunity that could be very profitable if organized properly.
I'm pretty sure they offer discounted services. What would be the point of having a full price daycare facility? Students could just take their kids to other facilities.
ReplyDeletePerhaps, I am clueless... Did you see the condition of the building? Do parents actually send their children there? Anyone checked for L-E-A-D?
ReplyDeleteGeeze!
Student fees pay for this convience...

ReplyDeleteThe building looks familiar...like that joint behind the Top Flight parking lot lol
I have a nephew that attends the school and it really isn't that bad. The facilities are nice, clean and secure.
ReplyDeleteThis absolutely by far, the worst child care center I have ever seen. I am a student intern and I've been over there many times and the staff is absolutely the worst. Abuse, of the worst kind, (verbal and emotional) is evident EVERYDAY. This is a direct result of budget cuts. Lower budgets equates to low class faculty. People who have NO business working with children are over there. I've reported the center to Dr. Washington NUMEROUS times but nothing has been done. And to think that they charge almost 250 dollars a week??? You'd be better off leaving your child at home-alone.
ReplyDeletebudget cuts do not turn people into abusers. if they are jerks now, they were jerks before the budget cuts.
ReplyDeleteit sounds like a criminal investigation is warranted - if what you say is true. stop calling washingtion, call the police.
