After investing more than $80,000 to upgrade the FAMU football weight room, replace digital camera equipment for game film breakdown and rid the football field of grass-eating pests, its clear that FAMU Athletic Director Bill Hayes is man on misssion.
"We're going to do everything we can to help Joe Taylor and the team get off to a great start," Hayes said. "We just need the fans.
Better for fans
Hayes also reduced the price of general admission tickets to football games by $5 to increase attendance, and hopefully bring in more cash.
He is also offering a "family package" set at $300 that would cover admission to all football and basketball games and any banquets where a paid admission is required.
Our goal is to improve the FAMU sports experience for both the student athletes and the fan.
"We're in negotiations with several local restaurants to become vendors at football games, in our new "food court","Hayes said.
During this past year's basketball season, Hayes worked to improve the game environment with more give aways, a DJ, and chair back seats for season ticket holders. At this spring Orange & Green game Hayes added a "kids zone" in the endzone and other improvements he plans to keep up during the season.
Illegal T-shirt hawkers beware
Hayes also said that FAMU will step up policing of unauthorized sales of products with the school's logo. He suggested that fans should purchase only products approved by the Collegiate Licensing Company to which FAMU pays a copyright fee.
"It might seem like a little thing, but when you consider all of the T-shirts sold and if that product is licensed that might mean a book for a kid," he said.
If he really wanted to improve the game day experience he could start with improving the women's restrooms!
ReplyDeleteI am glad that Hayes is making some progressive moves. I am glad he was hired.
ReplyDeletedoes anyone have in details on the $300 family tickets. On the web cite is appears as one ticket for the home games in Football and Basketball and all booster events. But in the media it reads "family" tickets, which to me means either two-four tickets for all of these events. Does anyone know what the true number is??? Please help.
ReplyDeleteAccording to reliable sources upgrades to the women's restroom in the stadium is now in progress. Full-size mirrors, baby changing stations and other upgrades will be installed by the 2008 football season.
ReplyDeletethe $300 all access pass is per person. Not for a family. And it is for general admission seating only.
ReplyDeleteThanks :33pm12
ReplyDeleteI attended the spring football game in April...and that was one of the first "new" changes I was very impressed with...the restrooms had already undergone an improved face lift!
ReplyDeleteHow funny! I read from the bottom up and just left a comment on the post below about ticket prices. I applaud AD Hayes for his new initiatives and I look forward to the upcoming seasons. Yea! :D
ReplyDeleteRemember that nothing happens successfully in collegiate athletics unless the rules of 3 and 5 are acknowledged properly and despite Mr. Hayes attempts at righting the ship there is serious issues that face FAMU athletics. Time to bring back a real rattler to the post of AD and get us back to the glory days.
