Construction on FAMU's new four-story teaching gym is nearing completion. The new facility will be home to FAMU’s physical education department and Rattler & Lady Rattler basketball teams. It will feature sports training and physical education training areas, a hydrotherapy pool, concession stands and ticket booths, interactive learning classrooms, athletic and physical education offices, an indoor track and an arena that will seat more than nine thousand.

ReplyDeleteYes it is
Its beautiful. I hope FAMU rents it out to third parties that want to hold concerts and other events. The University could really use that revenue. I also hope the volleyball team will play there.
ReplyDeleteNice to see that Humphries' projects are still coming through the system.
ReplyDeleteI say rent it out to every basketball, vball, rodeo, MMA, boxing, convocation, political rally, that you can get.
I'd rent it out for a Klan rally if the burning cross wouldn't ruin the grass out front.
I think you need to leave the comedy to the comedians because you are not funny!
ReplyDeleteYeah, all that except the last group you mentioned. We already have enough of that around us, in our state. There is already a "cross burning" at every edge of our campus. They've already crossed lake bradford road and now FAMU way is ushering in a new basket of mess for us. If we aren't making any noise, the progress will be against us yet again.
ReplyDeleteBack to the topic...the center looks nice.
ReplyDeleteI like the gym and thank you RN for posting this. Although I'd like to be more aware than I have. Are the students and the entire university involved with the teaching gym and for that matter, all other projects on campus. Interdisciplinary? I don't live in Tallahassee anymore and it is the hardest thing ever to show anyone what the school has, or what facilities really look like. I mean, even the proposed and planned growth should be accessible. I have felt like I was looking for something I wasn't supposed to know about. We need to see where the vision is headed so that we all can be invested and on the move. I would like an interactive map of the school and that would help visitors too. I know that there is a site that has this already for the school, but we should find these types of tools to get more people engaged. Imagine donating to the Dr. King memorial and not getting to see the renderings or see a presentable web-site. I'm sorry but the image does NO justice to the university right now.
ReplyDeleteNaming rights? Or should that have been done before the ground breaking? I hope the landscaping is at least gonna be student related. The architecture school's landscape design porgram could be utilized. I noticed that the arc school at FAU has a big planning project in broward. How is our community asking for help and input from FAMU? And I know that FAMUARC is just as talented if not way better. I ask the same for all of the other programs that can better benefit the entire community and FAMU. I thnk that often the community/state takes a hit or a loss for not looking for help at FAMU.
ReplyDelete6:34 PM, it's called "surfing the web". You can find out anything you want to know or see any pictures of FAMU that you want to see...on the web. I don't understand what you're complaining about. The multipurpose gym is wonderful and well deserved. I see many great things happening for FAMU in the very near future.
ReplyDeleteRattler Nation, thank you so much for keeping us all informed, including SOME of those bigoted BOG Members. We know that we can depend on you to tell it like it is.
Uh 7:26, I know how to "SEARCH" the web. I have already matriculated our FAMU and I have a personal interest. We don't have the luxury to think that everyone is gonna do the "search" whi is grossly limited. Complaints and challenges, to an optimistic Rattler, are nothing more than perfect opportunity! Maybe you'd understand if you were really looking for real information and pictures of the university. I too think and expect that there are great things in the future for FAMU. I just know that all stakeholders should think and feel that they are as informed about the institution as we were about the Obama Campaign. We know what the world should know, that FAMU is a treasure which can be immediately global and useful to all her stakeholders...FAMU I Love Thee...
ReplyDeleteHumphries got this funding? When? I thought he was gone when this was funded. RN said Lawson was responsible for the teaching gym. Humphries left in 2001 the funding was appropriated the first time in 2003 according the Florida Legislature.

The Gym is being named after Al Lawson.
ReplyDeleteYeah but do you think the interim President was responsible for the plan? Go Rattlers!
ReplyDeleteThe first pot of money for the Teaching Gym got appropriated in Humphries final year. Gainous failed to spend it in a timely fashion and the first pot of money reverted back to the State. Lawson, reappropriated it and the remaining sums.
