Contrary to internet rumors, an alleged “FAMU sex tape” was not filmed in a campus dormitory, university officials confirmed today.Claims that a group of FAMU students made a pornographic video in a university-owned housing facility swept through cyberspace yesterday. The actual footage was posted on a sexually explicit site called “Dare Dorm” which shows what it purports to be dormitory-made sex movies to its viewers for a fee. While the video in question clearly depicts sexual acts, the setting is not in any dormitory or apartment on FAMU’s campus.
“The residential facility featured is not a FAMU dormitory,” President James Ammons stated in a memo to the FAMU community. “The Division of Student Affairs is further investigating whether this involves any other FAMU facility or FAMU students.”
Ammons added that “regardless of the video title and status of the persons appearing in the video, FAMU does not endorse the website, video or behavior of its participants. We are encouraging the owners of the site to remove the word ‘Rattler’ from the video title.”
A blogger named “Bee Michelle,” who identifies herself as a student at Spelman College, investigated the tape’s origins and believes she has discovered the identity of the men and women in the video. According to her: “They are paid actor's who are competing to win $10,000 from dormdare.com. This is actual porn. Real. Authentic. Just NOT from FAMU or in a FAMU dorm nor does it involve FAMU students.”

ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this article. As an alumnus of FAMU I was happy this event did not involve FAMU students or occur on the campus dorms. Now when I was on the "Hill" I did my dirt but I did nothing public to hurt my ala mater!
Given that our university is cash strapped I think the university should sue the website and the young woman for defamation.

ReplyDeleteAnybody could see that is not FAMU's campus. I love my alma mater but that school's facilities are too nice to be FAMU.
FAMU General Counsel should be all over this institutional defamation. The actors claimed they were FAMU students in FAMU dorms. They even said that the girls were in the Marching 100. And with FAMU's Presidential scholarship tour about to kick off, this is a terrible look and bad timing. I'm sure many parents will have concerns, which may ultimately affect their children's (our prospective students) decision to enroll at FAMU. Dr. Ammons and staff will have some major PR clean up to do. I know they're going to get tired of having to answer questions related to this sextape. Best believe folk are going to ask, and the admin has to answer.
ReplyDeleteFAMU Sextape was the 6th most searched term on Google, everyone is not going to see the correction that it was not FAMU so damage to the university image has been done. THE UNIVERSITY NEEDS TO SUE EVERYONE INVOLVED FOR DEFAMATION!!!!

ReplyDeleteI agree and there are some out there with pwi schools too but they don't go as far as this. Someone should have stepped in when the calendars started a few year back. What this REALLY is, is a giant OPPORTUNITY to get a new website for the university, atheletics, drs, and online classes for us who can't return. 1:28 go sit...and watch the video.

ReplyDeleteIf this is something that Dr. Ammons want to pursue in civil court, he'd be smart to hire competent outside counsel. Bad enough losing suits and paying out more money than it should have required where you were the defendant, but taking a chance of losing where FAMU is the plaintiff would be sadder than sad.
You know you're a Rattler when your first reaction was that those "dorms" were too large and too nice to be on FAMU's campus. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, a big ol' LAWSUIT should be what's next. It's one thing to say you're from FAMU - everybody wants to be us - but it's another thing entirely to pretend you're on our campus.

ReplyDeleteWhile this more than likely was not a Rattler (I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to post it on a website), there are orgy's going on all the time at MOST colleges. I know Rattlers that were around FAMU in the late 90's know of a FSU kicker caught on tape with FAMU students. It is bad press but it happens at other colleges and universities.
