After not being able
to play on their home field all last season, the Lady Rattlers Softball team,
are returning this year to a new and improved field.
“It wasn’t quite the same as being in our park,” said assistant
coach Lori Goodart, “but our fans did a great job of making it feel like a
hometown game.”
Due to repairs being made to the field, the Lady Rattlers
had to play at various locations such as FSU, Messer Park and FAMU’s intramural
field.
Not being able to play on their home field last season did not stop the girls from playing their game; they ended the season 20-32 with winning most of their home games at a 6-5 clip.
“Our girls are pretty resilient, they knew this was
something they couldn’t control...they put it in perspective and knew that
wherever we were going to go that we were going to play hard and represent the
Rattlers the best that we could,” said Goodart.
The repairs to the field include outfield grass, new clay to
the infield, fencing around the park and netting.
“Our girls are ecstatic to be back on the field, being able
to practice and play,” Goodart said, “it looks phenomenal.”
Freshmen players Amber Fullwood and Miesha McBride, who did
not experience the disadvantage of not playing on the field last season, said
it felt good to be able to play on a new field.
“It’s great, it’s exciting now we don’t have to go over to
the intramural to practice,” Fullwood said, “we’re home.”
“It’s our home field, we can be more comfortable,” said
McBride.
