This afternoon, the FAMU Board of Trustees voted against awarding a performance bonus to President Elmira Mangum.

Vice-Chairman Kelvin Lawson offered the motion to decline a bonus to the president based on the results of her first year evaluation.

“We’re talking about rewarding a bonus for over and above performance,” he said. “My motion would be that we forfeit the bonus for the past academic year.”

Trustee Robert Woody was also in strong support of the motion. He referred to the numerous problems in the relationship between Mangum and the BOT.

“I think we’re fooling ourselves if we think the situation is going to get any better,” Woody said.

Lawson’s motion passed with an 8-4 vote.

The eight “yes” votes came from: Chairman Rufus Montgomery, Vice-Chairman Kelvin Lawson, Faculty Senate President Bettye Grable, Student Body President Tonnette Graham, Torey Alston, Spurgeon McWilliams, Kimberly Moore, and Robert Woody.

The four “no” votes came from: Belinda Shannon, Cleve Warren, Nicole Washington, and Karl White.
