On Thursday of last week, the Florida Senate confirmed the appointments of Matt Carter and Nicole Washington to the Florida A&M University Board of Trustees.

Carter, an appointee of Gov. Rick Scott, was confirmed for a term that ends on January 6, 2018. Washington, an appointee of the Florida Board of Governors (BOG), was confirmed for a term that ends on January 6, 2020.

The Florida Senate confirmed Robert Woody, another Scott appointee, earlier in the session for a term that ends on January 6, 2020. Gary T. McCoy and David Lawrence’s appointments have been received by the Florida Senate, but no action has been taken on them at this time.

BOG appointees Thomas Dortch, Jr. and Craig Reed are not currently posted on the “Executive Appointments” section of the Florida Senate website that lists the names of appointees who will be considered for confirmation in 2016.

Appointees to Boards of Trustees begin serving immediately but must be confirmed within two sessions in order to remain in their seats.
