FAMU President Elmira Mangum and FSU President John Thrasher have jointly appointed J. Murray Gibson as the new dean of the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering. He stepped down as dean of the College of Science at Northeastern University effective June 30, 2015 and remains a faculty member there.

Gibson applied for the presidency of FSU back in 2014. He was one of 11 finalists but didn’t make the cut to be one of the four candidates invited to the last round of interviews on campus.

The salary line for the deanship is at FAMU, but the FAMU Board of Trustees must vote on whether to give tenure to the new appointee.
