Florida A&M University specialty license plate sales and renewals are part of the annual giving total for the school. The FAMU Foundation reported that FAMU tags brought in $436,555 in 2016-2017. That’s the first increase since 2013-2014.

FAMU received $446,395.59 from tag sales and renewals in 2013-2014. That declined to $431,615 in 2014-2015 and then down again to $429,256 in 2015-2016.

Sales are still far below where they were in 2009-2010, when FAMU received $519,550 in tag revenue. Back in 2009, the Florida Legislature hiked up fees for vehicle registration. It later cut down the cost of some of those fees in 2013.

A FAMU tag costs an additional $25.00 per year on top of the regular auto registration fees. The money from tag sales goes to “academic enhancement” at the university.

FAMU has participated in the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles specialty license plate program since 1987.
