FAMU reported its highest number of COVID-19 infections in a single week. For the week ending Nov. 13, 2020, FAMU reported 49 positive cases among students, with one 1 positive among employees, compared to 17 positive cases among students and zero cases among employees the week before, according to the university’s dashboard.
Since August 1, 2020, FAMU has reported a total of 195 positive cases.
“We have cases in the Villages East, Villages West, the Towers. We have cases spread across campus,” Tanya Tatum, Director of Student Health Services at FAMU, said in an email to the Tallahassee Democrat. “We have been working with the Department of Health to identify and follow up positive cases.”
As of Monday, 15 students were in isolation in the Palmetto North complex on campus.
The spike in cases last week follows a national trend, and comes just as students prepare to go home for Thanksgiving break. The university will to shift to fully remote learning after the break.
