Today marks the start of the 2006 Hurricane season. What will the heavy winds bring our way? Well for starters, the state auditors should be delivering FAMU a draft copy of its 2005 draft audit on tomorrow or by early next week at the latest. FAMU will have 30 days from the date of delivery to respond to the auditors findings before they become final.
Once the draft document is delivered to FAMU it becomes a public document, those familar with the process say. This means that FAMU should make a copy of the draft available to any citizen who ask to see it. If FAMU won't make this public document available to the public, as is anticipated, all one would have to do is call the state Attorney General's Office, public records division, and explain this to them.
The phone number for opening a public records request inquiry with the Attorney General's is 850-414-3990 or toll free at 1-866-966-7226. This can also be done online at: Public Records Contact Form
To be fair, the folks on campus who should be able to provide citizens a copy of the draft audit are: VP Fiscal Affairs Gerald Dunn or the Interim President. Mr. Dunn's phone number is 850-599-3211. The direct line to the President's Office is 850-599-3225. Now, if they are unwilling to provide the information you need, by all means call the Attorney General's Office.
It looks as if the dark clouds are gathering on the horizon...
