FAMU Volleyball to open at Troy

The Florida A&M Women's Volleyball Team will open its' 2006 campaign August 25-26 in the Troy (Ala.) University Invitational, the first leg of a lengthy opening road stretch that will last through mid-October.

The five-time defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference champions, who have won 81 straight MEAC regular season matches since 1998, will open their conference slate on Friday, September 29 against North Carolina A&T at 7:00 p.m. in Gaither Gym.

Head coach Tony Trifonov, who has posted 200 match wins in his nine seasons at FAMU, will lead his charges into five tournaments: Troy (Ala.) Tournament (Aug. 25-26); New Mexico State Invitational (Sept. 1-3) in Las Cruces; University of Florida Tourney (Sept. 8-9), in Gainesville; University of Miami Invitational (Sept. 15-16), in Miami and the University South Florida Tourney (Nov. 24-25) in Tampa.

The MEAC will hold its' Midyear Roundup, October 13-15 at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, pitting the Northern division schools against the Southern division schools. The 2006 MEAC Volleyball Championship set for Hampton (Va.) University, November 16-18.
