Well, well, well, it seems that in recent days Castell & Co. have mounted their own agressive PR Campaign by sitting down with the Tallahassee Democrat, an entity that they've never reached out to before. She's to be commended. The effort has yielded a few positive stories and a nice editorial for the time being. The Democrat seems to be taking her word (hook, line, and sinker) without any examination of the facts. Here's today's editorial: FAMU hope
Castell Bryant’s attempt at damage control in her interview with the Democrat is too little and too late. She has changed her tune from “my-way or the highway” to “preside over a more open administration, whose procedures would be more clearly explained during "the pain of change."“ Her leadership has been a disaster for FAMU. The Democrat says it “shares the aspirations of Ms. Bryant that the procedures she is putting in place, including a sweeping accreditation review of faculty credentials, will help meet FAMU's mission.” Apparently the Democrat does not know the chaotic state of the “sweeping accreditation review.” We must keep the heat on Bryant so as to minimize any further damage she will do.
ReplyDeleteYeah, thanks to this blog for giving Rattlers a voice to speak their frustrations.
ReplyDeleteI agree with 10:30 AM. Castell is trying to equalize some of the projected bad media that she thinks will come as the results of the outside audit. It certainly will tract and find that she and KPMG have hidden the truth. It will reveal the truth about the "Real State of Financial Affairs at FAMU", from January, 2005 to the present. I understand she has tried a give Herb Bailey his walking papers. However, he has information that would implicate her and she does not want him sharing that with RN and the public. Isn't his Salary over $100,000 ++ and he only has a B.S. degree. In any event, his wife is a Delta Lady. He should have been fired months ago. How many faculty members are making over $100,000 and they have terminal degrees and years of experience and publications in professional journals.

Really now. Well Herb has enjoyed three years of double digit raises ranging from about $10,000 to $19,000 a year, while faculty and staff have been denied any relief, a cost of living adjustment, etc.
He can do the right and expose the lies about our financial situation.
t is wayyyyy... past time for those who are concerned about the future of FAMU to move to action.
ReplyDeleteIt is obvious that the chair of the Board of Governors (Carolyn Roberts) is backing the destruction of FAMU as well as the chancellor of the State University System, Mark Rosenberg (back door deal to replace Debra Austin as chancellor) and the governor.
What these people are counting on with the assistance of Castell and Corbin is that we have been neutralized/silenced and will not come together against the common enemy long enough to stop fighting amongst ourselves.
I believe that we as Rattlers and supporters of FAMU are much more savvy and intelligent than these individuals give us credit for. With that said, Rev. Miles always said FAMU must stand forever, no matter the foe, well the FOE is in our house NOW, and we must get them out of our house by any means necessary.
I challenge a 1,000 Rattlers to begin today to contact the following destroyers of FAMU and demand that a new president is seated by December 2006; demand that the faculty and staff rights are respected through the collective bargaining agreement; and demand that our future, FAMU students are given the respect, support and nuturing environment to develop into future leaders of our society; and demand that John Franco, Department of Education, Inspector General, under Derry Harper's supervision and oversight, Florida Chief Inspector General, begin the investigation into why the university went from a $11 million surplus as reported by Castell Bryant in October 2005 to a $10.4 million dollar loss, as well as, impeding the investigation of these allegations by the FAMU inspector general and assistant inspector general who have consequently been placed on administrative leave; and finally and investigation into the relationship of Challis Lowe and the Hollins Group and why they were given a no bid contract.
The Governor, the chair of BOG and the Chancellor are culpable and should ultimately be held responsible.
FAMU was not a dragon that needed to be slayed/destroyed by Castell Bryant and Challis Lowe the self appointed dragonslayers.
Contact these appointed and elected officials today, tomorrow, and forever until we get some results. They can no longer refuse to answer those that represent us at the UFF bargaining table, the elected SGA officials or even the few alumni who have been writing. Let's do this en masse and copied our elected senators, congresspersons, legislators and even the media if you feel compelled to do so.
We go on record TODAY, to say enough is enough!

Let's take this fight to the streets. They are counting on the proud, faithful, die-hard Rattlers to continue to complain and fight amongst ourselves. Let's take this fight to their houses and let's see how that like the negative media and press that will follow in the wake of them sitting quietly while FAMU is destroyed. These individuals know that they appointed several of the most destructive individuals to sit on our board. Roberts and Bush should be held accountable for their appointees.
Jeb Bush continues to make back door deals with James Corbin and Castell Bryant. This is information that Corbin sprews like poison to whomever will listen that Jeb listens to and follows his lead on any and everything dealing with FAMU, including keeping competent individuals from serving on our board of trustees.
This is a call to action if you care and love FAMU!
FOREVER FAMU
This is another point of view about what can be done with these "rogue" administrations. This is an article from last year that includes information about what faculty from HBCUs did when faced with presidents who were also out of control. We are way past the point of "keeping this in the family" and need all of the help we can get.

ReplyDeleteWhat's up with Lee Hall? Is it now off limits?

ReplyDeleteI TRULY HOPE THE DEMOCRAT ISN'T FALLING FOR THIS NEW GAME castell, corbin, and co. SEEM TO BE TRYING TO PLAY, BUT THEN AGAIN, THEIR JOB IS TO SELL NEWSPAPERS...CAN WE DEPEND ON THEM TO REPORT THE FACTS? I TRULY HOPE THEY AREN'T FOOLED BY THIS HOAX castell IS TRYING TO PUT OVER ON THEM.
TLH DEMOCRAT....DON'T LET YOURSELVES BE HOODWINKED BY THESE CRIMINALS! SHOW US THAT WE CAN TRUST YOU!!!
GO, RATTLERNATION, GO!
DON'T LET THE SOURCES DRY UP.
THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO GET TIRED AND FED UP...THAT'S WHAT THEY ARE COUNTING ON.

ReplyDeleteYou're everywhere...just as we need you to be! Keep up the good work! Just let us know what day we're going to march up on Lee Hall!
I know there are some that work on campus that can't be too vocal, lest they lose their jobs, too. Those of us that can take up their slack, please let's join together and stop the madness!!! FAMU NOW!!! FAMU FOREVER!!!
To anonymous @ 12:51 PM:
ReplyDeleteGood article. Did you notice how some of these presidents also hid behind "personnel issues"?
So FAMU faculty, whatchu gonna do?
Baddest person hit my hand. Are you gonna continue to let Castell get the jump on us? Every entity has to do their job. Please join Alvin Bryant and the NAA in a show of united "strike".
May the force be with all of us who truly care about FAMU.
Hmmm... Seems Dr. B dropped $380k on a house in Golden Eagle about 5 weeks ago (June 9th). Since it looks for all the world like she got 100% financing, maybe it was just too good a deal to pass up. The house next door is smaller and sold a year ago for $426,600. Surely the fact that she bought it from the CEO of this: http://www.floridafishing-boating.com/pdf/welcome_letter.pdf organization played any part in it, right?
ReplyDeleteI love my people. Rattlers stay strong.
ReplyDeleteWe really, really, really must write letters to the Governor, the Chancellor, Legislators, and anyone else who is in a position to do something about this "axis of evil" that is destroying our beloved school.
ReplyDeleteWe must be willing to stand-up to these people who mean FAMU no good.
If it means a sit-in - then we must stage a sit-in.
If we have to march on Lee Hall or the Capitol, then we must march.
If we have to stand up and walk-out on CastHELL (while she is delivering her speech at the next faculty meeting), then we must WALK-OUT!!
But we must keep the pressure on her and make her think long and hard about her next move.
Like Anita Baker says: "You better watch your step - you'll fall and hurt yourself oneday.

RN: When need a central location to come together to plan our strategy to dismantle this sinister plot to dissect FAMU.
All bloggers, alumni, faculty, staff, students, friends, family, etc., show your support by encouraging 8-10 others to stand united to prepare for and participate in any (non-violent) form of protest that is necessary to stop the madness at FAMU.
I know together we can do it.
But we can't use this blog site to plan our strategy.
RN: Help! I'll e-mail you soon to get some suggestions.
Ain't no stoppin us now -
We're on the move!
Ain't no stoppin us now-
We really, really, got the groove!
Let's get to it!!!!!!!!
