Rattlers pick up two 1-A Transfers
Ratttlers reported in today for the start of 2006 fall football practice. Among those checking in were two division 1-A transfers.
•Former Tallahassee Rickards High star defensive tackle Treymayne Walker, a 6-3, 290-pounder, is coming in from the University of Illinois (#93), where he played in four games as a freshman a year ago.
•Redshirt junior defensive back Khalil Sutton, a 6-1, 190-pounder from Vanderbilt, played in 10 games last season. He hails from Westlake High School in Atlanta, Ga.
FAMU Coach Rubin Carter indicated that both players could eventually earn spots in the starting lineup, Walker at one of the two vacant defensive tackle spots and Sutton either at cornerback or safety.
Carter said only four of the 22 high-school players he signed in February failed to qualify to play this year.
Quarterback Eugene Smith out of Pensacola Catholic High School, running back Adrian Jenkins out of Bradenton Southeast High School and Robert Nealy out of Jefferson County High School did not meet the academic qualifications to play this season and did not enroll at FAMU. Offensive tackle Leon Daniels, out of Suwannee High School, also did not qualify, but Carter said he still planned to enroll in school this fall and attempt to qualify to play in 2007
