Great! How many of them have paid their alumni dues?
ReplyDeleteI graduated from FAMU in 1985, so I guess that automatically excludes me by one year. I reckon the group doesn't want any
ReplyDeleteantique FAMU money.
i wuz thinking da same thing!
ReplyDeleteguess we have to start our own shyt... middle age rattlers!
Looking at the who's who list, many of these students were on full scholarship. How many have made any real contributions to FAMU? This is the only problem that I had with the full scholarship programs. A free ride and how many can say they gave a $1,000 each year back to the university after graduation.
ReplyDeleteUnlike myself, I had many loans after graduation but managed to give back $250 each year until for the last 7 years and I am a life subscribing member.
I wonder if the recipients ever thought enough to give back and join the NAA.
Many on that list are Deltas as well.
ReplyDeleteWell I just hope they leave some loot.
Be fair, I know they don't want to be separate from the NAA, but I know a few who have tried to not just give, but be active in some sort of way. The problem is that they have not been called to do anything or get to a meeting location and no Rattler is in sight. These have been accounts from all over, not just one area of the country. I just think that recent grads who always ended up hanging out together realized that they were spending a good deal of money (club vs. houseparty)and probably felt that a different format would be more productive and potentially a big draw. I'm sure that ALL RATTLERS are welcome. Maybe they could be a bridge from the Student Alumni Association to the NAA.
ReplyDeleteBased on these comments I guess the saying is true: no good deed goes unpunished. What if, instead of downplaying their efforts, you supported them?
ReplyDeleteTo the "middle-age rattlers": no, you do not need to start your own program - that mechanism is already in place and is the main focus of the NAA. It seems that this program is to attract even more alums to give back, especially the most recent graduates who otherwise would not. Hopefully, your comments were in jest, as I'm sure you've given much back already.
Despite all that increasing numbers of my classmates have experienced, I AM GIVING BACK. OFTEN as possible because I will too, have loans to payback. Giving back will be a lifestyle choice for me so I will always account for a gift to my FAMU. A few of us have already started to get friends to think about the knee jerk reaction to question giving back. Thankfully a couple professors have mentioned the importance of our participation.
ReplyDeleteYOU GUYS ARE SO FUNNY! Now, how in the world could you make something negative out of these young graduates trying to do something positive?
ReplyDeleteI'm not giving anymore to Foundation, Scholarship/ Endowment, FAMU/United Way or even parking services!!!!! (LAUGHING)
But! If young students want to organize to do something positive, give them the ^5 or 5^ and wait for tomorrow or next week (Kappa trial resumes?) and post your mean thoughts? Don't put a damper on the babies trying to give... let's tell them that's a good thing. :-)
Yes, I am YOUR CONSCIENCE! And your comments monitor. ROTFL
You guys are something else!
You people have got to be kidding me. Does the term "crabs in a bucket" mean anything to you cynics?!
ReplyDeleteThis effort does not sound to me like they are slitting off from anything! They seem to trying to engage and recruit new support for our institution.
When I graduated with my masters from an ivy league - I couldn't go one month without my school asking me for money. When was the last time someone at FAMU called you to ask for support?
I suggest you people stop HATING!
I am a '91 grad of FAMU and I will be supporting this effort. If you choose not to give - then step aside!
This giving campaign is another great idea being put together by young leaders. Go ahead youngins and do your thang!
ReplyDeleteMany schools have a Young Alum section, just like Urban League. It appeals to the younger folks much more to have a group with just them (especially the single folk). I'm sending my donation to this group after I pay off my speeding tickets, and I have no prayer of making back to Tally for a durn luncheon.
ReplyDelete6:52, I know you didn't mean to call these people "babies," b/c anyone who graduated in 1986 is roughly about 43/44/45. Hardies "babies," but I know from when you came with the comment. I graduated in 1984, so I guess they don't want my $$. I guess I'm too old to be considered young by their standards.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea. I did not realize that the NAA had a young alumni section. Dr. Alvin Bryant should be commended for getting young alumni involved. I look forward to hearing how much this event raised.
ReplyDeleteRepresent young alumni!
Make sure you document your giving to disapprove comments that FAMU alumni do give back to their alma mater, reccent graduates included.
Some of us can't read. Not hating, but this event is being formed by former SGA leadership and not the NAA. I don't think Dr. Alvin Bryant has anything to do with this, but good try at spinnning
ReplyDeleteI can understand how someone would think this is Alumni driven -- "Young Alumni Giving Luncheon".
ReplyDeleteMaybe it should have read -- Former SGA Ledership Luncheon.
However, it is a worthwhile effort. Just hope this is not another fraction developing within the NAA.
Lord, have mercy, do we sometimes have the tency to "not" read, sometimes we just "won't" read, even when the information is right before us. Where does it say that Dr. Alvin Bryant had/has anything to do with this? I believe, as a previous blogger said, this is a former SGA presidents/associate members thing. Now, do we not only have the adage, "when you want to hide something, put it in a book," we now can add to the equation, "if you want to MIS-read something, put it on the computer screen." Come on, people, READ.
ReplyDelete...and this is where we all think of others who can contribute to the event becoming a great event. Maybe this can help bring some eqilibrium to the environment. We cancontinue to worl positively while we disagree and or purge administration or any other entity which causes danger to our institution. We don't have to be fake to kill 'em with kindness. Bsides, its too dangerous to risk being consumed with negativity. That os really what THEY (take your pick)want. Remember in 2001 Americans said that we wouldn't allow anyone to alter our way of life? Look what has happened!
ReplyDeleteWe will never have to worry about other people keeping us back, because we do a d@mn good job of tearing each other down! I am apalled that anyone would think anything negative about someone trying to give back to our university at a time when it is much needed. For those of you who care not to be blindsided by your own ignorance, I would like to note that the email I was forwarded from my NAA chapter president notes that this event is being done in conjunction with the NAA/Office of Alumni Affairs. So personally, I don't give a rat's @ss if these folks were on full scholarship, in SGA, or just sat on the Set for four years, I am proud of their current efforts. Congratulations on being such forward thinkers and good luck with your event!!!
