The Leon County Chapter of the FAMU NAA will honor former U.S. Rep. Carrie P. Meek tomorrow night at the Tallahassee Leon County Civic Center. The event will raise money for the chapter's scholarship fund.

Mrs. Meek, a graduate of FAMU DRS and Florida A&M University, went on to have a distinguished career in Florida and National politics. In Congress, Mrs. Meek was recognized as one of the 50 Most Effective Members by Congressional Quarterly Magazine. She was the first African American woman elected to the Florida Senate and the first African American elected to Congress from Florida since reconstruction.

Her years of activism and concern for all Floridians has earned her the title "the First Lady of Florida Politics".

Band Alumni to honor Foster
Meanwhile, the Marching 100 Alumni Association will be holding a gala to celebrate the 60th anniversary of that famous band. While the band traces its roots back to the late 1800s, the monkier "Marching 100" didn't come into existence until shortly after 1946, the year William P. Foster was hired as band director.

It was Foster's dream to create an outstanding marching band of 100 or more muscians. The Marching 100 gala will be held tomorrow evening in the new FAMU band room, located in the Foster-Tanner Fine Arts Complex. Funds from this event will go toward scholarships for band members.

  2. Don't you mean the Leon County NAA and the Band NAA.

Casthell wouldn't date honored either of these legends b/c their stars, contributions and humanity outshines any devious plans she had and continue to orchestrate for FAMU.
