Lets Go Dr. Ammons!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYep...yep...
ReplyDeleteThis was a good decision. The search committee picked the three people with the most experience in university-level education.
ReplyDeleteFAMU does not need to be in the business of training presidents. We need a veteran, not a trainee.
And with that said, Dr. Ammons is the best qualified, hands down.
UMES is like a high school compared to FAMU. When Ammons went to NCCU there were less than 5K students. His charge was to grow the enrollment to 8K. NCCU went over the 8K mark this fall. Analysis - FAMU decreasing enrollment; NCCU growing enrollment. The difference - Ammons. His value to FAMU at this time in history - PRICELESS!
ReplyDeleteAmmons IS A RATTLER! No conversion needed.
ReplyDeleteIn 1996 the enrollment at UMES was 3,166. Today it is 4,130, the first time in the institution's 120-year history that the student body headcount has exceeded 4,000.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, NCCU had struggled for years with dwindling enrollments, low SAT scores for incoming freshmen and buildings that were falling apart. When Ammons, the chancellor, arrived in Durham in 2001, he was tasked with expanding NCCU's enrollment.
With FAMU as his model, Ammons tried to build ties to businesses to provide students with plum internships and scholarships. The companies would benefit by getting to know motivated students who might want to enter their work force after getting degrees.
Under Ammons, enrollment numbers and SAT averages have moved up. Millions of dollars have been funneled into a new biotechnology training program.
But he also has had to battle problems with toxic mold in residence halls.
During the spring, he tried to keep the campus calm after news broke that an NCCU student -- hired through an escort service to dance at a team party -- alleged that she had been gang-raped by three Duke University lacrosse players.
Today NCCU has 8,600 students enrolled and is in a growth pattern.
Which model most resembles FAMU? If you look objectively, the difference is clear. Larger school, bigger challenges, strong solutions. Ammons...Priceless!
Dr. Ammons, GOING! E-and-eh...
ReplyDeleteThompson picture...
ReplyDeleteNow really... is that the face of sanity???
What's wrong with his face. He looks ai'right.
ReplyDeleteLOL!! You are oh, so wrong for that. It's a "her"...

ReplyDeleteMaybe continuiung to rely on THAT is part of our problem!!
It's interesting that Thelma Thompson can apply for every opening with her Board's blessing. They must want her OUT at UMES pretty bad.
ReplyDeleteIn the last 3 months she has lost at least 7 employees including a VP, Director of Library, and Volleyball coach. What's up with the exodus of key personnel. UMES is but so big.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget that Thelma Thompson's provost (Anna Vaugh Cooke, former Dean of Graduate Studies at FAMU) just applied for another position.
ReplyDeleteAmmons IS a Rattler and has proven he has what it takes to do the job. It's time for the Corbin-hater and Cast-Hell regime to end.
ReplyDeleteIt's time for FAMU to "return to glory" and get its swagger back!
Go AMMONS!
Word from UMES alumni, no love loss for Thelma Thompson. They say she is inaccessible and are reporting she is difficult to work with. You are correct that several key people are leaving. Many worked with her at other places, but they are saying that power corrupts and changes people.
ReplyDeleteThe alumni are trying to bring back football. They say she is not involved and has not taken a stand. She is neither helping or hurting that cause.
They are ready for her to leave. We do not want any one else's rejects.
