Nearly 700 FAMU professors are about to get a raise, a bonus and their first contract in three years.

Negotiations between the faculty union and administration finally resulted in an agreement to give a 1-percent raise to faculty, retroactive to October.

The three-year contract still must be ratified by the union and FAMU board of trustees.

  3. Yeah, and has the contract been signed. It seems the UFF have been down this road before, with Castell reniging in the 9th hour.

  4. Wow! One whole percent. Let's see, now. That equals, in terms of a nine month contract faculty member--which I am--to approximately fifty $$ per month, paired down to approximately $30 after taxes, divided by about 2 weeks. Yep, that's about right: a whopping $12-$15.00. Thanks, Castell. You go girl.

  5. with inflation at 3%, 1% is nice, but...

  6. 1% > 0%. I think this is a step in the right direction, considering Castell has cut just about everything else.

  7. As long as they don't give the grinch a raise and bonus on her way out the door, I can deal with that. Hopefully the next president will see the value added in giving a raise to ALL employees > 1% for the work they've done under unworkable circumstances/environment.

But it is still a darn pitiful shame.

  8. Those of us who teach and work at the university are so used to bad conditions and circumstances until we are so grateful for any little bit of whatever the powers that be throw our way. And we think that it's such a grand and great thing. Don't think that Castell is behaving nicely for no reason. For every halfway good deed that she signs off on, you can believe that she's got her motive for doing so. It's not like she being nice just for the sake of being nice. Before she leave Florida A&M University, she's going to make sure that this last act of so-called "kindness" will indeed not go unrewarded. Watch what I say, or better yet, keep your eyes on RattlerNation. She's a slick one and one not, of course, to be trusted at all.
