Governor Charlie Crist this afternoon has named prominent Tallahassee Attorney Daryl Parks to the FAMU Board of Trustees. Parks will replace Jesse Tyson, who's nomination Crist had rescinded earlier this year.
Mr. Parks was the first FAMU SGA President to hold the office for two terms. More on Parks here: Daryl Parks
Excellent choice! I bet he knows the difference between the highest accreditation and SACS. LOL
ReplyDeleteHalleleujah!
ReplyDeleteThank you Governor Crist.
The big ticket item is still out there. Two Things:
ReplyDelete1). Let's hope Parks is cool people and will not be seduced by the darkside.
2). The big fish is still in the water, your girl Lowe.
After the way Sen. Lawson sliced and diced her in front of the Senate Audit Committee Ms. Lowe is headed for the Florida Senate frying pan and a BIG NO Vote!!!!!
ReplyDeleteD. Parks is an excellent choice! He is cool people and will not be seduced by the dark side. That's just not the kind of cloth he's cut from. My only problem is it shouldn't have taken this long for him to be put on the board.
ReplyDeleteThere is a "God!"
ReplyDeleteWe on the road to recovery already!
ReplyDeleteIt is definitely a new day on the Hill!! FAMU is definitely going to finally get the direction and leadership it needs, both in the Presidency and on the Board!! Congratulations, Trustee Parks!!
ReplyDeletePrayers have been answered. God isn't done with FAMU, yet.

TALLAHASSEE — An Tallahassee lawyer with roots at Florida A&M University was appointed to the FAMU board of trustees Tuesday by Gov. Charlie Crist.
Daryl Parks, who graduated from FAMU and the Florida State University law school, succeeds Jesse Tyson on the board. His appointment, subject to Senate confirmation, runs until Jan. 6, 2011.
"Daryl is an energetic and hard-working person who cares a great deal about the future of Florida A&M University," said Crist. "He approaches life with a great attitude and will carry his enthusiasm into this position."
Parks, 38, is a partner in the firm of Parks & Crump, which represents the family of Martin Lee Anderson in a civil suit against the state resulting from the Panama City teenager's death after a beating in a juvenile boot camp last year. Crist this month called for a $5 million state settlement of the case, which is pending before the Legislature.
Parks is on the board of directors of the Florida A&M University Foundation and the FAMU Boosters.
"I appreciate Gov. Crist allowing me the opportunity to serve the university in this capacity," said Parks.
if the gub'nah takes out Lowe and the rest of the Sith on the BOT in one fell swoop and replaces them with good people like Parks, perhaps we should put the letter "H" in his name.

You dun bumped your damn head!!
Hush up old fool!
Nickas will make every decent cracker a Saviour!
Amen to 4:30 pm. It is not that serious to compare him to Christ
ReplyDeleteCongratulation, Mr. Parks. I know the Law School will not escape your attention and you will be to see the specific needs. You have our support.
ReplyDeleteDaryl, already being a (huge) financial alumni, will bring back a sense of right governance for the university. He's a good man and loves FAMU.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see Mr. Parks has been appointed to our BOT. Gov. Crist made an excellent choice!
ReplyDeleteThe vote is now 8 to 5 in favor of Ammons. Parks is a die hard RATTLER. Good bye Jessie "Mike" Tyson with your bumb self. Oh, good ridance!
ReplyDeleteOne more to go: Challis Lowe-Down. Get her Al.
Don't mess with the RATTLERS 'cause they will STRIKE, STRIKE AND STRIKE AGAIN.
yeyyyyyyyyyyyy!
ReplyDeletegod is good all the time and all the time god is good...good move gov crist!
I, for one, will not applaud at the next BOT meeting when Jesse Tyson is recognized as a former board member and receives a plague for his service.
ReplyDeleteHis tenure on our BOT is nothing to be proud of. His legacy will be in serving as a blind, puppet for the Bryant administration that helped them come within one vote of destroying our institution.
4:38--the blogger who references Gov. Crist to Christ--putting in the "h"--is being sarcastic. Goodness, don't you know sarcasm or wit when you see it. Apparently not.
ReplyDeleteThank whomever recommended & Gov. Crist for HEARING.
ReplyDeleteNOW DR. HUMPHRIES, IF YOU'RE WILLING WE NEED YOU ALSO.

I don't know about your faith or character, but where I come from, we call that blasphemy. Sarcasm is fine--comaprisons to the Son of God are another!
FAMU's problem is? It is run like a church with a pastor leading a flock!
ReplyDeleteThis institution's ills will not be cured by the new BOT or Ammons unless a change of course is taken. If it is business as usual with the new administration, then the next time around FAMU will shut it's doors.
"faith" and "character" have very little to do with one's understanding of sarcasm and wit, no matter where one "comes from." And I don't know all about this "blasphemy" stuff either.
ReplyDeleteAnyone notice that so-called "tan" that Charlie Crist sports? Look how swiftly he has done all of these wonderful things so soon after becoming governor: the Martin Lee Anderson case as well as naming Darryl Parks to the Board. I think that Crist may really be a brother. I don't think that's a "tan." What y'all think? Could a brother be beneath that bronze glow. I don't know...I'm just kind speculatin'. Seems mighty strange that the gubna being doing the right thing. Watch out there, now! You mighty close to joining the ranks of brotherhood and sisterhood.
ReplyDeleteLet's continue to lobby Charlie to oust the Jeb-appointees and give us more good people like Daryl. If he does that, then I'll agree with adopting him in as a brother like we did with Clinton.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Daryl on his appointment to the Board. He is a welcomed addition as he has made wonderful contributions to the University through the years and I don't mean only financially although that is very important.
ReplyDeleteOn the real, I am also very concerned at the loss of potential financial resources and connections from which the University could have benefited through Jesse Tyson. I don't know Mr. Tyson personally, but I do know a couple of his Alpha Phi Alpha brothers that do. Tyson was beneficial in securing $1,000,000 from Exxon/Mobil for the national MLK memorial. By the way, if you haven't already contributed to that, click here to do so now. From what others have shared with me, Tyson is a no-nonsense person. He's probably somewhat relieved to not have to deal with us anymore. The problem is that we may have done ourselves a tremendous disservice in the business circle in which Mr. Tyson travels.
Regardless of who is on the BOT, as FAMUans, we must step up our game as far as supporting the University is concerned. Incoming University president Ammons will need all of us to do more than give lip service. There is much work to be done and it can't be done by one person. I don't know about you but I'm still proud to be a Rattler.
There have been so many vitriolic comments spewed within the FAMily within the last year or so that it has been as astonishing as it has been disappointing. We can agree to disagree but real Rattlers never give up. Real Rattlers don't do whine and cheese and they don't do lip service. So, the bottom-line is, are you a Rattler or a garden snake?
In the Rattler Spirit,
Vanessa

ReplyDeletenononsense my foot!
he isnt the only oil executive with clout that we can find to appoint to our board. we dont need a flunky who doesnt understand the significance of SACS anywhere near our BOT or anywhere near our school representing us.
he is not a fit for our orgnaization...good riddance to the empty suit.
The Star Island contingent... Spare me...
ReplyDeleteDid you get anything juicy out of the NAA Ex. Board meeting on the 3-way call that Rita hooked you and ya boy up with?
As an FSU grad, I wouldn't be surprised if Parks supports transferring the COE to FSU. I understand that Ammons supports the same thing. Very disappointing.
ReplyDeleteWhoever we are given as leaders of FAMU, we must remember to hold everyone accountable. I am not surprised that the Boot Camp death case was settled almost simultaneously with this appointment to the BOT. Now, we must make sure that the interests of FAMU students are served without further delay.
ReplyDelete^^^
ReplyDeleteyou have a point.
Both Ammons and Parks are not speaking against the transfer of Engineering to FSU. By their silence, I interpret them as supporting FSU's racist take over of FAMU
ReplyDeleteAll of these vitrolic diatribes are the real issues that FAMUans should be dealing with. Are you a rattler or a garter snake is the real question. Real Rattlers will not be challenging the administration without knowing all of the facts.
ReplyDeleteDo you know factually why Dr. Bryant has made this move? Maybe Trustee Parks and incoming President Ammons are privy to this information. Let's give them a chance.
