Yvonne Sanders-Butler, PhD is the principal at Browns Mill Elementary School, in Lithonia, Georgia. She and her school made headlines all across the world after she banned all processed sugar from its premises, making the predominantly black grade school the very first sugar-free school in the U.S.
With studies showing that 23% of black children are obese and that black kids disproportionately suffer from type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure, Sanders-Butler felt her crusade was necessary. great read, thanks!
ReplyDeleteFAMU DRS should follow this approach. It couldn't hurt their test scores any, and might help.
ReplyDeleteRN you are all over the place. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteAll over the place with some good news to break up the other stuff.
ReplyDelete...and punishment should be brought back. You'd be amazed at the difference. My age group has a MUCH different outlook on discipline in school as opposed to my classmates three to five years younger. ALSO, turn off the televesion and radio! Stimulation from school was the predominate factor all day for our household. Don't get me wrong- we saw(not watched)tv- just not nonsense and time management was a big factor in that. We really saw what my parents thought was worth investing in. Cosby and the like. We actually recorded almost every instance of US no television. NOW- majority of it is ANTI-BLACK starring blacks or cartoons(my best friend is a monkey). Figure out what you're being sold. Tehy are ALL selling SOMETHING. I applaud this effort and hope that it catches fire like when Rodney King was beaten. Time to take our kids back from the market/retailers. Who's gonna just it and watch the work being done..? I hope you join in and effectively help. I do.
