The FAMU BOT today approved by unanimous vote a contract to hire James Ammons as the University's 10th president this morning.

Ammons said he accepted the position with a degree of awe and responsibility, but also with optimism.
"This optimism is fueled by the overwhelming support of the stakeholders," Ammons said. "We must harness this energy and love and move the agenda of Florida A&M University."

Trustees singing a new tune
"It's my intent to sign it today, God willing," board chairwoman Challis Lowe said of the contract.

"We're at a huge milestone," said trustee Laura Branker, who co-chaired the presidential search committee. "This starts a new chapter. There's a lot of momentum behind him."

The contract pays Ammons a base salary of $325,000. His starting date is July 2.

Ammons attended today's BOT meeting with his wife Judy and son James (III).

  1. Glad he could hear about the residuals of the mess he SHOULD clean up because he and his cronies created it.

  2. I'm glad he begins after this fiscal year is over!

  3. Looks like we have HATERS on the hill. Maybe that is someone that won't have a job once he gets here. Come on aboard Ammons, we welcome you and we know that you can get us out of this mess that was created after you left.

  4. There is ABSOLUTELY no place for that right now. Time now for solutions. If you don't have those- we don't need you. We need to get more personal with our FAMily! We have changed so much in the past few years. Dig deep and come on-or we're moving without you, and we really don't want that either.

  5. Cast-Hell took a straight beat-down today.

Holmes, "I've been on the board five years and this is the first time we've had a payroll problem like this." In response to Cast-Hell saying this problem goes back to the 80's. Never have more than 700 people not been paid. NEVER!

Holmes, "I want the contract for Dr. Ammons signed TODAY. I'm not playing about this." Everyone is tired of Cast-Hell's lies, lies and mo lies! Get the message Cast-Hell time for you to GO! Take your cronies with you!!!

  6. Perhaps Dr. Ammons can find out why many faculty members lost their health insurance on March 2, 2007.

  7. I am so thrilled Dr. Ammons is returning. Perhaps he can give Trustee Holmes an honorary college degree since he only has a high school education. BTW, why is he serving on a Board of Trustees for a prestigious historically black university having only completed 12 years of high school? How can someone who has never attended a college/university provide insight into how it is to function when he has never attended one? While many of you are attacking other board members and their qualifications, I think its time that the light was shed on the real devil.

  10. After all the hurt, pain, missed mortgage payments, etc. Cast-Hell has caused she should have resigned yesterday from embarassment. She's a fraud.

  11. Did anyone else notice how Chall-is Lowe and Laura Branker all of a sudden now have jumped on Dr. Ammons bandwagon. Branker wouldn't even cast a ceremonial vote to make his 7-6 win a unanimous show of support by the board and Ms. Is Lowe outright campaigned against him. But they're both on board now. RIGHT! Call Charlie! They gotta GO! And Tyson? Thank God he didn't open his mouth...he's gone!

  12. Cast-Hell comments about the university were all down and negative. She absolutely gets no sympathy from the RN after all of the hurt, pain and embarassment she has caused. But when Ammons spoke it was refreshing, optimistic, hopeful. He has the momentum and if he harnesses it, we will be able to help him turn this catastrophic mess around.

  13. 10:26, what are you talking about. Go to any search engine and type in Holmes' name, and you wil find out that the man is degreed. You are so very misinformed. Maybe that high school diploma is what YOUR minister has. Holmes' degrees are from fully accredited insitutions and he is quite qualified to sit on the board--not that he OUGHT to be sitting there, but he is qualified. You're silly as H.

  19. On subject. Doesn't the President and First Lady look great. Very easy on the eyes. They look fanatastic as a couple and she knows how to dress like a lady. Check out the hair, the suit, the smile, we haven't seen a smiling face in a long time.
