The Tallahassee Democrat is reporting that Florida A&M football coach Rubin Carter has suspended junior receiver Willie Hayward indefinitely. Carter's decision leaves in doubt whether the Rattlers' No. 1 offensive playmaker will be available for the 2007 season.
Carter informed the team of his decision after Monday's practice. Hayward, a 6'4, 190lb receiver from Miami Jackson, was not at the practice and could not be reached for comment.
Carter said there was no timetable or criteria set for Hayward's possible return to the team. "Over a certain period of time, I'll make a decision," Carter said. "It's not like we are totally severing ties with Willie.
"We are going to get with him, mentor and teach him the things that should be important for his life, not just football."

Coach Carter ain' playing when it comes to academics for these student athletes. The last thing he wants is more NCAA violations under his watch. The rest of them better recognize. Take your ass to class and study.
ReplyDeletenow THAT is a nappy headed...
ReplyDeleteHistorically throughout sports, smiles let you know who the winners were. Recently in history, the macho image set upon the black male by the sports industry, countinues to requrie this stale and negative depiction of us. Even the women's teams think that it is appropriate to 'grill', 'mean mug', or whatever it may be called. Even the women. When they don't know that it really is a swindle to get them to look unhappy, desheveled, neglected. Don't it look sad? That scholarship alone should make one smile. let's work on being more personable and professional with these pictures, news conferences and attire.
ReplyDeleteAMEN, 3:46. If I were the coach, I would make sure that these fellows looked like young men (before the amera) instead of looking the way this fellow does in this picture (but of course, we know, now, that the camera takes what it sees and that, of course, is another whole dialogue for another time...). But Coach Carter should really require that these fellows not look so doggone gangsta before the club. We know that the guys on the field are there to do a job, but goodness, gracious, something's gotta give.
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with nappy hair? It ain't white enough?

ReplyDeleteWhat makes his pic look gangsta? He has on a jersey. He's not smiling, most men don't smile in pics. Does that make them gangsta? Maybe I am not seeing the picture you see. I see a young black man, with locks, in a football jersey. No grills, not golds, no chains, no guns, no liquor, no blunts, no cigarettes. SO please tell me what is gangsta.
that wild mess all over his head.
