About 100 students, many wearing red shirts, gathered in front of the eternal flame in the middle of campus before noon to discuss a consultant's report sanctioned by the Board of Governors. A recommendation in the Pappas Report was to to reestablish the mission of some state universities. FAMU, for instance, could focus its mission on increasing undergraduate programs.
“We totally disagree with any move to remove any of the graduate programs,” said Rashad Brown, an educational-leadership graduate student.

we gotta focus on what we do best if we are going to succeed in the future
ReplyDeleteAgain i have to disgress
ReplyDeleteMr. Amir Shabazz(The one who organized the rally at lee hall) has no ideal about what's going on at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. The demands were countless.
1.Famu grant free education to all students.
You must be NUTS!!! FAMU is a public institution which means it gets state dollars and money from the federal government up in washington. 60% of FAMU'S revenue is based off of the monies students pay towards tuition whether it's through financial aid which 95% the student body is on financial aid. If FAMU started just serving free education how would professors get paid. FAMU would be breaking state laws as a public institution thus giving the senate and TK a good reason to take control of FAMU.
2. The board of Trustees hold monthly meetings open to the public.
Hello!!!! This already exist, if you want to speak you have to sign up for community forums two weeks in advace. Why not advocte for a more publicized schedule of the meetings and a more expedited aproach to speaking at community forums
2.Why are you asking Cast-hell to apologize it won't happen, and quite frankly will not improve anything for FAMU.
3.Why are you calling for Cast-hell to remove board members. Son if you did your homework you would know that of the 13 board members two are defacto, 7 are by the board of governors and 4 are appointed by the governor of the stste of Florida. Please do your homework.
4. If you read the pappas plan it's an optional plan, FAMU does not have to enter into the plan if it doesn't want to. This plan will come up for review at the end of the year, but just like last time it will not pass through the legislature.
5. It's not politically correct to call people out of their names and say that they are not fighting for FAMU or have the student's intrest at heart. Alot of students listen to you and to kyle, but to sit back and banter the the boy is a shame.
Sometimes I wonder if rallies like this don't belong to the long-ago time of the Big Marches, when they worked.
ReplyDeleteNow, they often seem just an excuse for students to miss classes.
I suspect that more is being done to change the world by students who study hard and develop strong skills, than by those who march on the university or the capital to give themselves the illusion of having power.
Political power doesn't come from rallies.
