The team was on its way to Norfolk, Va., for the MEAC Baseball Championship Tournament, which begins Thursday.
According to FAMU assistant sports information director Ronnie Johnson, the team left Tallahassee at 11 p.m. Monday evening. Johnson said he wasn't sure of the exact time the tire blew, but Valdosta is located about 90 minutes from Tallahassee.

SECOND TIME IN A MONTH. WONDER IF NELSON TOWNSEND CAN GET A GRIP BEFORE HE RESIGNS. LAST TIME THE BUS CRASHED AT A GAS STATION, BASEBALL TEAM AGAIN. NO ACCIDENT REPORT WAS FILED. BUS PROBABLY WAS NOT FIXED, SINCE THEY ARE BROKE. THE DRIVER WAS NOT EMPLOYEE OF FAMU OR THE STATE OF FLORIDA. WHY THEY KEEP HAVING PROBLEMS IN ATHLETICS? HMMM.....LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE SHOULD BE FIRED FOR NOT FOLLOWING STATE RULES AND PUTTING THE TEAMS IN DANGER.

ReplyDeleteDid they make it in time?
ReplyDeletethe bus driver were certified by the state of florida and were drivers for other bus companies in tallahassee. The athletic department didn't have a choice, because the bus drivers for FAMU didn't or couldn't make the trip.
ReplyDeleteThe bus drivers didn't or could not drive the bus to maryland. FRom what I understand, at the last minute the bus drivers for FAMU came up with excuses. And the the bus did not crash at an gas station. The bus scrape a pole turning into the gas station causing minimun damage.
ReplyDelete$12,000.00 is minimum damage?
ReplyDeleteThe cost was $7,000 for the bus. I was told.
