Bookkeeping declared by state auditors to be "an absolute disaster." Massive and rapid turnover in top leadership. The loss of key personnel just as a new computerized accounting system was being implemented.

Last week, the same regional accrediting group put FAMU on six months' probation for similar problems.

"It got to the point where everyone knew the patient needed some radical surgery in order to be saved," said Grambling President Horace A. Judson.

  1. Wouldn't it be nice if we could compare ourselves to something better and forward-looking for once. I am happy that Grambling survived, but the world, especially in the area of education, has changed. People have changed. Private funding and government funding are both on the decline. It is time for HBCU's to move from survival mode to being be the type of institution that can get recruits without begging, to have employers running towards our graduates even before they hit senior year with paid internships and guaranteed jobs upon graduation. This is happening at other schools. If FAMU does not claw its way to the top our students will be left too far behind to close the gap.
