Former FAMU football coach Billy Joe was greeted by Col. Ron " GI" Joe and other well wishers in the Atlanta Airport as he traveled back to Tallahassee after being inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame this weekend in Indiana.

Billy Joe was enshrined along with a group that included Florida State coach Bobby Bowden and former FSU Heisman Trophy winner Charlie Ward, Jr. last night.

The College Football Hall of Fame said : "Few coaches can match the unparalleled gridiron success of William "Billy" Joe's storied career.

Having captured seven National Black College Football Championships and two NAIA national titles, he enters the College Football Hall of Fame as one of the most highly decorated black college football coaches in history.

Joe's 237 career victories place him fourth on the Football Championship Subdivision's all-time winningest coaches ranks and position him second only to the legendary Eddie Robinson in the black college football standings.

At Florida A&M, he led the Rattlers to an unprecedented five Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) titles, while garnering three of the conference's Coach of the Year accolades."

  4. Congratulations to Coach Billy Joe for being inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame on the first ballot!

Just another example of how stupid and foolish the whole James Corbin, Fred Gainous and Cast-Hell Bryant era was for FAMU. They fired a Hall of Fame coach. FAMU didn't do Coach Joe right, but he did FAMU right.
