Hampton University head football coach Joe Taylor said last Saturday that he is interviewing for the head coaching position at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, N.C. Yesterday, Taylor said that he has been offered the job and will inform Chancellor John Bardo today whether or not he will accept.
Taylor is also the new focus of the FAMU coaching search. Sources at Hampton University said that Florida A&M has also contacted Taylor asking for permission to interview him. Those close to the search also suggested that Taylor interviewed for the FAMU job yesterday. Taylor would not comment on the FAMU position.
"I would not be interviewing for the (WCU) job if I was not interested," Taylor said on Friday night. "As of now I have not made a decision."
Taylor has coached at Hampton University the past 16 seasons. He has compiled a 136-48-1 record and guided the Pirates to eight conference titles – five in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and three in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Taylor guided the Pirates to three consecutive MEAC titles from 2004-06. The Pirates finished 6-5 this past season.
Looks like we will be going after Rolle. He might turn out better than expected!
ReplyDeleteJoe Taylor does not have the energy to be FAMU's head football coach. He looks listless on the sidelines. I seriously hope that he was not under consideration for our head coach.
ReplyDeleteIf we're not bringing Billy Joe back, let's go with another Billy who runs a wide open and exciting offense...Billy Rolle!
ReplyDeleteFAMU don't need to waste her time by hiring high school coach.. I believe Notre Dame, APBU, Norfolk State and North Texas tried this expreiment before and failed. There several coaches that run wide-open offense that could be a great fit at FAMU.. These coaches are KEnt Schoolfield, Dewayne Dixon, Joker Philllps, Don Treadwell and James Woody..
ReplyDeleteWoody is protegee of Coach Rick Comegy and legendary Billy Joe.. Unlike his mentor, Woody favors a no-huddle balance offense silimar to New England Patriots.. However, he loves running up score like his former boss and mentor Billy Joe..
We don't need a HS football coach. This guy Rolle ain't ready to lead a College team.
ReplyDeleteI like Schoolfield.
ReplyDeletefor the love of Moses, i don't know why folks keep bringing up ol' tired-assed kent schoolfield. schoolfield is a has-been, was-been, washed-up old schooler. wherever he is, he needs to stay there. damn.

Schoolfied is a very good football coach. I'd like to see him as FAMU's Head Football Coach.
ReplyDeleteTaylor is our next head coach. Billy will be strongly encouraged to join us.
ReplyDeleteNews is Hampton coach offered the job at FAMU instead!!!!!
ReplyDeleteRe: HU FOOTBALL: FAMU, Western Carolina interested in Joe Taylor
ReplyDelete----------------------------------------------------------------------
FAMU, is a Step down. In HBCU speak, FAMU was like the FSU job when Billy Joe/ Bowden was the head Coach. That Program was on top and FAMU was a premier program. Now since they have had poor seasons some of the luster has eroded from the program and coaches are not looking for that job as an advancement in their career. Rod Broadway the Head Coach at Grambling recently turned FAMU down as the offer that the Staff at FAMU was much lower than what he anticipated. I expect Joe to listen to Western Carolina over FAMU. That would be nuts for Joe to move to Tally for a Program on the downswing. Here are the advantages and disadvantages to FAMU
Advantages
Better Fanbase / Alumni. They always travel
Support of the Community/ City / State
Larger Stadium Bragg Memorial is much larger but is showing some Age.
Access to the State of Florida
Name Brand. FAMU is known all over
Disadvantages
Poor Financing, Fr Heach Coach Billy Joe could not afford an Offensive Coordinator
No Support Staff, FAMU's support structure is Mild at Best, No Strength Program
Recruting Issues, BCC, FSU, MIA, UF, USF, FIU, FAU, Jacksonville State
Must Play Money Games to keep Program Afloat, MIA, UF, Recent Butt whippings
Will not have the quality athletes from HU, Tidewater Area is much too rich.
New Athletic Department, Not sure of the Stability.
please get off this board HATER!!! FAMU is a dream job to any coach available.
ReplyDeleteJoe Taylor is 2-7 lifetime against legendary Billy Joe.. Will Taylor brings wide-open offensive to FAMU like Coach Joe did back in mid-90's..
