RN Poll: Should FAMU turn to Billy Joe

Given our difficulty finding a new coach, should FAMU turn to Hall of Famer Billy Joe, the former Rattler Head Coach, who was recently named HC at Miles, but has yet to sign a contract with the Div. II school?

Billy Joe was a proven winner until Corbin and Ray Mathews started mucking with him. We owned the MEAC and was a powerhouse in D1AA. Yes, he should be rehired.
ReplyDeleteAn open appeal to Dr. Ammons!
ReplyDeleteBilly Joe has not signed with Miles College yet. FAMU did not handle him right. You know it and the entire Rattler Nation knows it. We need to do right by him. Quit listening to the haters, follow your first mind and hurry up and sign him. He's a man of his word and once he signs we have no chance of correcting the wrong we did to him. There will be some haters if you bring him back, but once we're winning again, like we used to, before the Corbin Clan destroyed his program, the stadium will be full again and we can all tell them, what we're in essence telling Castell and them now, to go to hell!
Eason saying no changes everything. Time for FAMU to do the right thing and do it NOW!
Ammons greatest error was hiring the "Crazy Ass" Hayes before hiring the Coach. FAMU is the laughing stock of all the HBCU's hiring that "Jack" Hayes.
ReplyDeleteI would love see Coach Joe back on sidelines.. However, he's currently committed bulding Miles College into football powerhouse. Ammons should consider making run at three of Coach Joe former assistants.. I'm referring to Rick Comegy, James Woody and current Morgan State Defensive Coordinator Alzono Lee..
ReplyDeleteBJ could come back as an interim head coach because it will give us more time to commit to executing a national search for the best head coach candidate, while at the same time put FAMU in stable position for the upcoming recruiting season.
ReplyDeleteBring Billy Back. We don't want Alonzo Lee, Rick Comegy, or James Woody! Rehire Billy Joe, Dr. Ammons, for it is the RIGHT thing to do!
ReplyDelete1:05, Eason "saying 'no'" doesn't change anything. We didn't have a coach before he said no, so how does his saying 'no' change things? It's not as if he said 'yes' and then changed his mind. He said 'no' from jump.
ReplyDelete3:51, you sound like an idiot. Why would BJ come back as an interim? Dang.
ReplyDeleteNO to wholesale quick fix JUCOs who don't graduate. NO to instant gratification. NO to a coach who took our program down into mediocrity because he would not turn the page in his play book. NO to a coach who wouldn't establish a relationship with high school coaches around the state. NO to bringing BJ back. His time has come and gone. Thanks, but NO thanks.
ReplyDelete6:51pm, you sound like an illiterate idiot...the reasons for BJ's hire as an interim were included in the thesis of my post...and 12:01am provided further rationale to why BJ should return only on an interim basis IF rehired...plus he's old and will be retiring AGAIN soon...an interim staff would allow us to salvage what we can of the 08 recruiting season and have leadership in place for the spring...just in case we dont have our man in charge by the new year...I would rather go this route than to hire some coach doing a rush job, and be stuck with another 3 years of mediocrity/losing...this gives Dr. Ammons the time he needs to conduct a thorough search for the TOP candidate since his initial efforts werent successful...sacrificing one recruiting class is less risky than hastily hiring the wrong coach for 5 years...
ReplyDeleteWhy would BJ back out of a new permanent position at Miles to be an interim at flamu?????
ReplyDeleteIf we're not bringing Billy Joe back, let's go with another Billy who runs a wide open and exciting offense...Billy Rolle!
ReplyDeleteDid anyone ask Rudy Hubbard
ReplyDelete"F" Rudy Hubbard! Who needs to ask him? If he's interested in the job he needs to pick up the phone and call!
ReplyDelete12:01am, at the D1-AA, you have to go the JUCO/D-1 transfer route in order to be successful, and BJ realized that. Alot of the teams in the playoffs this year(and other years) were filled with these players. I personally would have given Carter another year, but he tried to build the program with high school players and look where it got him. Most don't and didn't have the patience to wait. Why do you think Norfolk State and Del State were at the top of the MEAC this year. They had to bring those other players in to give their program a boost. And if they keep winning they will keep reloading with those type players. We don't have the patience because of the success given us by coaches like BJ. Also, When we were kicking butt in the MEAC were you complaining about grad rates? I played football at FAMU (under Rudy Hubbard) and it was my responsibility to get my butt out of bed and go to class. These student athletes are going to school free and are given every opportunity to succeed, help is there if they want it. Don't blame the coach. They are getting ready to enter the real world and they must take responsiblity for their actions. And it took me a minute to realize that during my time in school. I'm not saying BJ is the right answer, but i am saying he wasn't treated fairly. We need to get a GOOD coach SOON. And i mean a GOOD coach, because if not, we will be going through this again in about 3 years, which is not good for our program.
ReplyDeleteBring Back Rudy Hubbard!!!
ReplyDelete2:39p is right. D1/JUCOs were the reason that many teams including Norfolk and Del State are successful. Those players have the experience and the skills taken from FBS where the competition and speed is faster, which can be harvested and beneficial to any FCS team. Billy Joe relied too heavily on D1/JUCO transfers, and Carter refused to go that route altogether (even though he announced at the end of this season that in 08 he would start, but it was too late by then). A great medium would be to recruit talented HS players and fill in the positions where you have a void of experience/talent (like off/def line, qb, rb) with D1/JUCO transfers.
