The Florida A&M Women's Basketball team raced to a big halftime lead, then held serve in the second half to capture a 71-52 non-conference victory over Florida Gulf Coast University in Gaither Gym Monday evening.
Monday's win sent the Lady Rattlers (9-1) into the Christmas break tied with the 1981-82 FAMU team for the best start to a season through 10 games in school history.
Florida A&M shot 54.3 percent in the first half, while holding the visitors to just 30 percent floor shooting, bolting to a 19-point lead, 42-23 at intermission.
The visiting FGCU Eagles dropped to 3-5 with Monday's setback.
Rattlers fall by only 27 points
The Florida A&M Rattlers dropped an 87-60 decision to Big 12 Conference foe Kansas State in the first K-State Holiday Basketball Classic, presented by Subway at the new Sprint Center here Monday night.
FAMU (3-7) lost for the fourth time in the last five games Monday and its was their second setback in two games this season against Big 12 Conference competition.
Senior guard Leslie Robinson led FAMU with 19 points Monday, as the Rattlers fell behind big early to the bigger Wildcats (7-3), who exploited their size advantage to run away with the game in the first half.
The guys lost, but what does the headline mean, that they lost "by only 27 points"? Is twenty-seven points not enough to lose by? I'm not necessarily speaking about the loss itself, just the headline.

ReplyDeleteThe men's team needs more height. "Small Ball" doesn't work unless you have really good guards and wing players.
ReplyDeleteThe women's team should be thinking about top 25 rankings pretty soon. Then playing in the MEAC will knock all that out.
