A last second block shot propelled the Winston Salem State Rams to a dramatic 59-57 win over the Florida A&M Rattlers in North Carolina last night.
The loss snapped a three-game win streak for the Rattlers (8-12), while ending a three-game slide for the homestanding Rams (8-11) Saturday.
The Rams, who led, 33-24 at halftime, would lead by as many as 15 points in the contest before FAMU made another patented late charge to nearly overtake WSSU.
FAMU outscored the Rams, 33-26 in the second half, as both teams shot right around 45 percent (45.2 for FAMU, 45.8 for WSSU) in the second half.
Lady Rattlers rout WSSU, 67-36
The Lady Rattlers snapped an eight-game losing streak Saturday evening, using 28 turnovers by Winston-Salem State to breeze to a 67-36 non-conference victory.
The win lifted the Lady Rattlers to 10-9 on the season and was the team's first victory this year (2008). The Lady Rattlers converted the 28 Winston-Salem State turnovers into 25 points, as they struck early and often against the youth-laden Lady Rams (1-16) to get off to the races.
