Ex-Dolphin not rooting for Patriots to join his team as only undefeated team in NFL history.

Popping open a bottle of champagne would be great, but sweet tea will do just fine for former Rattler Hubert Ginn.

Ginn, a running back on the 1972 Miami Dolphins team that won Super Bowl VII and finished the season 17-0, is praying the New York Giants will spoil the New England Patriots' perfect season Sunday in Super Bowl XLII.

"Wherever you are, you're gonna drink," he said, laughing as he referred to the '72 Dolphins' tradition of celebrating their place as the only unbeaten team in NFL history. "When that last team finally loses, you're gonna give a toast - whatever you got. It's a great tradition. We just haven't done it yet this year. I hope it's coming."

Ginn said he will be cheering against New England, but the 61-year-old sales consultant for J.C. Lewis Ford on Abercorn Street said he will salute the Patriots if they finish 19-0.

"I usually watch two quarters of the Super Bowl, usually the end, but I'll probably be more persistent with this game and watch more than that," he said. "If they were to go 19-0 then we would welcome them aboard. But they would be the second team to finish undefeated. We were the first. Our record can't be broken. It can only be tied."

Ginn, who played football at Tompkins High School for coach Joe Turner and at Florida A&M in Tallahassee for coach Jake Gaither, was selected in the ninth round (211th overall pick) by Miami in the 1970 NFL draft.

  5. Yes, I read the article, and I know that the man is a former Rattler, but still, is it simply because the man is a former Rattler who played on undefeated Miami Dolphins team that this is newsworthy? I reckon RN's starved for something, anything right about now. So, I reckon starvation's the point of the inclusion.

  6. NuRattler, how about some new and good stuff? How about copies of some verifiable documents that we can use for informational purposes? Don't have me start wishing for the quick and accountable Da Rattler.

  7. RN- thanks for the good post. It's good to take a break from norm. The story is relevant and appreciated. Not all news has to be earth shattering.

  8. no one said all news has to be earth-shattering. we really want to know the intimate details that are taking place administratively on the campus, not really who's rooting for whom, why, and where. i mean, we can get that piece pretty much wherever (or not), but those of us who are not in tallahassee and/or near the campus really want to know what's going on with the movement of the university. and that does not have to be earth-shattering, just informative.

Then, I'd like to suggest that you call 850-599-3000 to get whatever info you're seeking about FAMU. This blog is just that- a blog. This is in no way an official FAMU site. It's more like an NNN (Negro News Network). The blogger is free to post whatever he/she feel is relevant- to them.
