Florida A&M football coach Joe Taylor signed 13 high-school recruits on National Signing Day on Wednesday, and he is not expecting a single one of them to help the Rattlers win a championship next season.

"We really recruited, but I don't know how a high-school recruit can be better than a guy doing what we have going on here," Taylor said.

"To be honest with you, we could have signed more out of high school," Taylor said. "I've talked to (former head coach Rubin Carter), and we know there are some young men here sitting out that can play.

"There are some young men on this campus that are going to be better because of what we are going through now with our strength and conditioning program."

  1. Coach Taylor seems to be very practical in his approach, vowing to coach up the current talent.

  2. We need a good quaterback now. Coach Taylor sounds like he is not planning to "go in a different direction" any time soon. Isn't that why we fired Carter?

  3. Coach Taylor knows that he has the talent in house to get the job done, thats why he isn't stressing "finding the answer" outside of the program. I think what many were saying on this board and other boards was Coach Carter failure in developing his atheletics. Coach Taylor's track records proves that he will develop the player, therefore, I think we will have a decent year this year and our program will be back in the top 10 in the nation in the matter of 3 years. Look at the size he is bringing to the defense!!!!!!!!!!

  5. what they got a very good quaterback from Lake Brantley Fl and as a matter of fact, the program and facilites at Lake Brantley High School make FAMUs football program of late and its field house look like a third rate high school. We as alum can change this though and if WE bulid it they will come! If WE wait on the state, i.e. the white man then we will get the scraps that they have always seen fit to throw us and that we so happily take.

  6. Can't we just get more Division I-A transfers like we used to and just beat down all the other teams?

I don't care one damn about development.

  7. ^^^I think Coach Joe is actually saving some scholarships for 1A/JUCO transfers and walk-ons (I think that's the talent Joe was referring to in his quote).

Who knows? There may be even more scholarships freed up after Joe gets rid of the "quitters" before they have the opportunity to quit. After performance evaluations of course. I know that's what Rob Broadway and Rick Comegy did when they first arrived at Grambling and Jackson St, respectively.
