Orlando based architects Rhodes+Brito has been selected to help design the renovation of the Orlando Citrus Bowl.

Design work on the $175 million, multi-phased project is scheduled to begin next month, said Ruffin Rhodes, a FAMU grad, co-founder and partner at Rhodes+Brito. The company will serve as associate architect, partnering with HNTB Sports, a Kansas City-based firm that specializes in stadium renovations.

Rhodes created his architecture firm with fellow FAMU graduate Maximiano Brito. Rhodes+Brito designed the new FAMU College of Law.

Construction on the renovated Citrus Bowl will be phased throughout the next three years.

The design team will examine upgrading the lower-bowl seating, and improving the upper bowl The project will also add new suites, 4,000 club seats, general repairs and a new 40,000-square-foot banquet space to the Citrus Bowl.

The lower part of the Citrus Bowl was built in 1936 and had fallen into such a state of disrepair that the City of Orlando was unable to renovate it. The stadiums' condition had taken it out of contention from hosting regular season collegiate competitions, pre-season NFL games and had even threaten their ability to continue hosting the Florida Classic. The stadium was last renovated in 1983, when the upper deck was added.

  5. Yeah, but there was no timeline attached. Could be 5,10, 15 or 20 years down the road.

We'd HAVE more than enough money for revamping the Bragg ...

If we would only quit selling ourselves short - and taking our MILLION$ of dollars to other cities and communities - and simply played more of our games IN the Bragg, and OUR TLH community, and encouraged our students, alumns, and local/regional folks to fill up our OWN stadium ...

And make all our money work for US ... Instead of for everyone else.

  10. 10:37 I kind of agree with you, but to Hell with the TLH community they have always seen FAMU as a threat and a "problem" because of its historical mission! They do not deserve the money that we take to ATL and ORL! Furthermore, look at how we are treated during HC! I wish we could move HC to Jville one year and fill up Jaguar Stadium and flood a REAL city with over 15 million dolllars and watch how they roll out the red carpet! We need to start sending messages and we do that with MONEY not no darn marching and singing we shall over come. The bussinesses in Tally give about as much respect to FAMU and its mission as most people give a bum asking for change on the streat corner of wanish way, the only difference is FAMU brings in over 100 million dollars in economic prosperity to this darn city!

Why does the poster have to have money to get the question answered???

It was a yes or no answer and if you're not equipped to provide either response, why not just keep it moving. Damn!!!
