Rattler Nation has learned that, Genniver Bell an Associate Professor of Educational Leadership at Fayetteville State University (FSU) in Fayetteville, NC has been named the new dean of the FAMU College of Education. According to the FSU website, she holds the B.A. degree in Art from Oral Roberts University (1976), an M.A. in Educational Administration and Policy Studies (1982) and an Ed. D. in Educational Administration and Supervision (1990) from Clark-Atlanta University.
Bell is a former (K-12) classroom teacher and administrator, and has held several higher education administration positions in state government. You can read the rest of her bio here.
She takes over on September 1, 2008. In the interim, Barbara Thompson will take over as Interim Dean, on July 7th. Thompson will replace interim dean Robert Lemons who was a candidate for the permanent job.
who were the other candidates besides Lemons?
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know anything about the CAS dean. They have been taking a long time to feel these positions, I just hope they get some fresh blood in that seat.
ReplyDeleteTHe interim dean will remain at CAS and be permanent
ReplyDeleteWow!!!
ReplyDeletePeople in the College of Education despise Barbara Thompson. Wow.
ReplyDeleteI hear Melvin Gasden applied for the position again. Can you believe that?
ReplyDeleteYikes! An interim dean replacing an interim dean who was a candidate for the permanent dean. As Mantan Morland would say, "There's a whole lotta confusement in tha house."
ReplyDeletehow come folks in the COE despise barbara thompson? what's that all about?
ReplyDeleteThe College of Education is a complete mess, and Robert Lemons did nothing to help.
ReplyDeleteWell, y'all will make it through the summer, right? Then give Dr. Ball a chance. Who is the Mantan Morland fan? You're telling your age.....
ReplyDeleteJackie been hired by more people than I can count...can't keep a job, apparently...
ReplyDeleteI hope that Ammons brings someone from the outside to fill the other vacant deans positions. Its time to get some fresh ideas in here, not the same old same old.
ReplyDeleteNot really telling my age, 6:19. I teach film and cinema studies, and he's one of those folks whose theatrics we discuss. I'm glad to know, however, that someone is familiar with him.
ReplyDelete7:18 your wish did not come true. The "new" Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences has been at famu four over 40years!!!! That is ashame! He should be home some where and letting a younger person with new ideas lead the COAS. But, that is only my view I know alot of the old people are goning to be upset but it is the truth.
ReplyDeleteWith the noted exception of one appointment, Ammons seems to have righted the ship.
ReplyDeleteHe deserves the benefit of the doubt.
7:18,
ReplyDeletedon't worry about it. Turner is probably in the drop program and will be leaving the University soon enough. He's probably a place holder until a more extensive search could be performed.
Ralph Turner is an outstanding administrator with a proven record. Remember, Ammons and Turner were colleagues in Arts & Sciences for many years. Our university president understands how to identity and use good talent from our faculty.
ReplyDeleteAmmons wouldn't trust the university's largest academic unit to someone who did not have his complete confidence.
So why did he put a old man he lives in the past in charge? Is he a good recruiter or fundraiser?
ReplyDeleteThe "old man who lives in the past" is a knowledgeable academician, an astute scholar, and a man with great integrity who has served the university with distinction. He knows the needs of the College of A&S and will take it through its transition phase. He has seen the university grow and transition and is a great asset to the division. Ammons and Hughes-Harris made a good move in selecting Turner.
ReplyDeleteIt's really a shame to see people bashing a loyal Rattler with a stellar track-record who's served FAMU with dignity his entire career. Dr. Turner is on the team that's protecting this institution.
ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not, FAMU faces real threats from the shrinking state budget, Board of Governors, and FSU (which still wants the E-School). Can we please remain focused on the real challenges?
8:06, do you know Dr. Turner? If you don't know the man, I think it unfair for you to bash him. Dr. Turner has served the FAMU community and has been a great role model for a number of students. Yes, he's been at the university for a long time, but sometimes longevity is benefecial when academics are concerned. And I'm not an "old" person, as you might think, in this defense. I'm a student in the College of Arts & Sciences, a chemistry major, which is Dr. Turner's area.
ReplyDeleteand shes forn NC too!! wat about that???
