Embarq, the local phone company, donated more than $500,000 in equipment this week the FAMU College of Engineering Sciences Technology and Agriculture. The equipment, more than 100 pieces, will help students in the engineering technology program gain hands on experience using some of the latest equipment.
"It's not a donation. It's an investment," (CESTA) Dean Makola Abdullah said. "This investment will allow our students to train with some of the latest equipment."
The hands-on experience of working with the equipment will give (students) a vast knowledge of what's expected in rapidly changing communications services field.
A million dollar week
The Embarq announcement amounts to a one million dollar week for FAMU, as the University also announced a federal grant award of $552,00 to CIS that would help bridge the digital divide among African American women.
