The main Lecture Hall at the FAMU College of Law will be christened the Gwendolyn Sawer Cherry Lecture Hall Thursday. Cherry, a Miami attorney, was the first African-American woman elected to the Florida Legislature. Elected in 1970, Miss Cherry was an early advocate for equal rights for women, in 1972 she sponsored the Equal Rights Amendment.
Cherry earned both her bachelor degree and law degree from FAMU. She also earned a master's degree from New York University and studied at three other universities.
An endowed scholarship fund at the FAMU College of Law will also be established in her honor.
Cherry died tragically when her car went off the road in dense fog near Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee in 1979.

First of all, RN, my forthcoming comments are not mean-spirited and should not be taken negatively, but you should probably get someone to proofread your writing before you post articles online for the world to see. The writing is almost always full of grammatical, structural, mechanical, and spelling errors. This is not a condemnation of what is written, but it is a notice that the writing should be overseen by someone with an eye for detail. My arugument, from those who will surely have a comment about what I'm saying here, DOES NOT INCLUDE what posters write. (We all know that posters merely type comments w/o attention to such how their fingers zoom across the keyboard.) The writing transmitted from RN, however, should be correct before it hits the site. I cringe more times than not when reading some of the writing. I enjoy coming to the site, but sometimes I have to bumble and stumble through the pieces due to the poor writing. The most recent article (on the Cherry Lecture Room at the FAMU law school), for instance, has a plethora of infractions.
ReplyDeletecorrection on MY above post: " . . . attention to how their fingers . . . "
ReplyDeleteI stand corrected in my own error.
^^^That's not the only error you made. Try proofreading one more time. Hopefully you can now see the triviality in your "notice" when the importance of the RN is to bring forth FAMU news that is usually overlooked by the media. Thanks for your appeal, but do like the rest of us and just skip through the minor errors to get to the bigger picture. Unless you have OCD or something?
ReplyDeletepleathora? damn yall went and used one of them old Billy Joe words!! LOL
ReplyDeleteRN, F'em !
You know, you could've just sent RN an email instead of putting them on blast like that. That's what we do when we have suggestions for this blog such as the one that you so eloquently made. Have some class!
ReplyDeletedang. is "there such a word as "triviality"? i always thought the word was "trivial." i reckon i'll have to check my dictionary for all of these big, high-falutin' words.
ReplyDeleteI do try and "skip" through, but I stumble and bumble, and the multitude of infractions make it hard to even do that, which, btw, is the grand, ol' point of the "notice." yikes!
ReplyDeleteCan we please all agree right now to adhere to the Queen's English in these posts. Ebonics makes you look stupid and it feeds the wrong stereotypes. We are educated people, not thugs.
ReplyDeleteLOL last post...Sybil Mobley would kick some behind for talking like a gangsta. We need more Mobleys on campus.

ReplyDeletewell aside from all the comments that bare no relevance on the actual content of the article.. i think its a great dedication to such a trailblazer. I'll be starting FAMU Law in the fall.. and I look forward to spending the next 3 years of my life in said lecture hall.. among others!
ReplyDeleteGenerally, 6:54, RN will remove an "offending" post. They've done so before. Obviously, they have the power to do this, but obviously, they did not want to. So obviously, it's not a matter of "class," but a matter, I presume, of taking care to note the content of the post. Do not, 6:54, be offended by the messenger or the message. That would show some "class."
ReplyDelete8:29PM, "trivial" is the adjective form of the noun "triviality". Please dont tell Cast-hell that her 2's are using big words. She'll make me go getta switch!!! LMAO
ReplyDelete6:47, I was being flip in my post about the trivial-word comment (about "triviality" being a word). Didn't mean to send folks to the dicto. (Again, I'm being speller-flip. I'm saying "dictionary.)
