Though best known for his movies and plays about fictitious characters, filmmaker Tyler Perry is ready to tackle his first “real life to big screen” adaptation. His idea: a love story about young Barack Obama courting the then-Michelle Robinson.
Perry wants Denzel Washington and Angela Bassett, who starred together in the 1992 Spike Lee joint Malcolm X, to play the lead roles.
However, “Mr. Medea” has competition. Will and Jada Pinkett Smith also want to produce and co-star in a bio-pic about the Democratic Party’s first family.
“I gotta get the rights to the story,” Will said in a recent Access Hollywood interview. “I’ll make the decision in about two months as soon as [Barack] writes the ending.”
His wife, Jada, expressed similar enthusiasm to MTV reporters.
"Pencil me in," she exclaimed. "I love Michelle [and] would play her any day."
During an October 2007 MTV/Myspace Presidential Dialogue, Barack himself remarked that he would want either Denzel or Will to play him if and when a movie was made about his life. The Democratic presidential nominee said Smith was an especially good possibility because "his ears match mine."
He added, though, that no actress is pretty enough to play Michelle, which means that she would have to play herself.
A combo like Will Smith and Regina King would be a much better fit than Jada.
ReplyDelete"Jada can play the oldest daughter!"
I think Denzel and Bassett would be great. My $$'s on those two. If Tyler P. gets those rights, I hope he doesn't make a ding-dong of a movie.
ReplyDeleteJada's a little too tall to play the oldest daughter. We know that you can cosmetically make folks look like whatever, but how do you shrink someone? Is Jada short?
This movie has "CHICK FLICK" written all over it.
ReplyDeletePlease not Jada as Michelle. Jada does not channel Michelle Obama at all. Terrance Howard and Angela Bassett ???
ReplyDeleteCousin Pam (Erika Alexander) and Will. Angela is great but if Tyler Perry gets a hold of that I shudder to think.I'm sure their story will be told several times over.
ReplyDeleteI think a less known actor and actress would be better. Actually I think it's too early for a movie anyway.
ReplyDeleteDarth Vador actor (the dark lord)
ReplyDeleteWhoopee Goldburg
I say: Whoopie and Flava Flav oughts to play the two.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly IS too early for a movie, but who, 9:50, said anything about when the movie would be made? Nobody. But You. There is such as word as "Future." And there is such a phrase as "In the Future." That might be the "when" of this thing. Ya think? Maybe? Perhaps?
