Henry Lewis III, Ph.D., dean and professor of pharmacy practice at Florida A&M University's (FAMU) College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (COPPS), is the 2009 recipient of the American Pharmacists Association's (APhA) Hugo H. Schaefer Award.
Established by APhA in 1964, the Hugo Schaefer award recognizes outstanding voluntary contributions to the organization, the profession and society. The award was bestowed upon Lewis at APhA's Annual Meeting and Exposition in San Antonio, Texas. APhA's awards program is pharmacy's most comprehensive recognition program
A little late RN, he already received the award in the beginning of April but better late then never. Dean Lewis is much deserving of this national recognition and is a tremendous asset to the university.
ReplyDelete2:28, everyone might not be privvy to Lewis' already having received the award. So, RN, whether it knew about it or not, doesn't really deserved any smart aleck remarks about what they may (or may not) be late on. Thanks, RN. Some folks are appreciative of your efforts.
ReplyDeleteRN, can you find out how much Bill Clinton and Soledad O'Brien are getting paid for the commencement speeches, how much, overall, the university is shelling out for their appearance, and finally, where the funds are coming from. In view of the university's financial circumstances -- as faculty members were told in a two and 1/2 hours Spring Faculty Meeting with the president on Monday, -- the school is in dire financial straits and is cutting back in a number of areas. Bring us this news, please, and thank you.
ReplyDeleteAnd what would that solve? I'm not in Tally and you wouldn't imagine the interest in the university just from commencement. In light of past public issues and past accolades, this seem to come at a time when the cost is really priceless.
ReplyDelete8:03, you really need to keep up with the dire financial straits that the university finds itself in. The cost, 8:03, is not "priceless." (You've been watching too many Visa commercials, obviously). What you need to do is visit the University's web site, locate the specific windows that speak directly to the university's plight, and you would obviously understand one's need to know. While Bill Clinton is certainly a huge name to grace anyone's commencement stage, if an institution is making major cuts in a distinct number of programs and services that will affect the quality of prominent academic initiatives -- not to mention faculty, staff, and student course offerings -- then, one should question the source of the funds. You don't HAVE to be in Tallahassee to be informed. That is what newspapers, radio, and television, and hello?, the Internet is for. Obviously, and again, you get your source of information from folks on the street -- if there. If it's not there, then you probably just remained uninformed. Some folk want to be informed & some folk don't. Dare I say which category you fall into?
ReplyDeleteI look at Bill Clinton's visit as a great marketing tool for FAMU. This no doubt will make the national news. That will be great PR for FAMU and I believe it will translate into more prospective student interest in attending our great university. This is a win-win for FAMU.
ReplyDeletei don't think anyone said that Clinton's appearance at FAMU wasn't a win-win for the university. stakeholders still deserve to know how much the man is getting paid. nothing more. nothing less. dang. folks can't even ask questions about the university anymore without folks calling out the bloody cops. if RN doesn't care to respond, then RN doesn't have to respond. The question, however, still deserves to be asked.
ReplyDelete4:39 PM, if it's that important to you, go over to FAMU and find out for yourself. RN can't spoon feed you.
ReplyDeleteI teach at the University, 10:18, so I don't have to "go over to FAMU" (whatever that means). And BTW, the situation is not "that important." People's questions deserve a response if answers are known. This is an online forum for interested FAMUans.
ReplyDeleteFTR ...
ReplyDeleteIt was mentioned in an article in the TLH Hypocrat that he's not charging the School a dime for speaking.
Hello...
ReplyDeleteEarth to RN readers...
RN stands for Rattler Nation, not Rattler News...
If it's not here, or it's late...think about the statements provided above, repeat until it seeps into your mind, and permeates your common sense.
This is a blog. If the owner of this blog wanted to start talking about needlepoint, or the GNP, it's HIS blog...
The blog owner decided to capture the news, in his own way. So I have a suggestion I'll capture in two words: BACK OFF!
You think it's easy? Then try it yourself...walk in RN's shoes. Don't like it, don't read it.
FTR, I appreciate what this BLOG brings. Good, bad or indifferent. Thanks, RN!
Yes, me to 6:10 PM. I love RN. Keep up the good work RN.
