Ending more than a week of speculation , FAU President Frank Brogan officially submitted his application for the State University System chancellorship.
“I have been approached by many influential people throughout the state regarding this opportunity,” Brogan said in a letter to FAU supporters. “But only after much reflection and discussion with my family did I decide to pursue the opportunity and convey my intent to the individuals conducting the chancellor search.”
There are currently 11 candidates for the job. The Board of Governors will narrow that number down on Monday and then interview the finalists on July 17. The BOG is expected to make its choice on that day.
Brogan, a former Republican lieutenant governor, is widely expected to run for the governorship in the near future. By becoming chancellor, he’ll receive regular coverage from statewide newspapers and have an excuse to travel across Florida shaking hands on the taxpayers’ dime.
Oh Florida, Please Don't Fall for This One!!! There has GOT to be someone more qualified and better suited.
ReplyDeleteLt. Governor Brogran is one of the most smart and intelligent people...and the most qualified for the job. A former Lt. Governor, Commissioner of Education and current University President, no on can top his credentials nor his record. He is a non-partisan Republican and this will serve him well! He deserves it!
ReplyDeleteAnother chancellor without a Ph.D. Brogan oh brother.
ReplyDeleteOh so we give jobs based on who DESERVES it!? And CREDENTIALS, lol Castell has credentials. Debra Austin has credentials lol. Florida DESERVES BETTER. Who said anything about partisanship.
ReplyDeleteJack off Brogan.
ReplyDeleteThe last thing we need is another incompetent Republican running anything in the State of Florida, much less the SUS.
ReplyDeleteWe're screwed!!!
ReplyDeleteDamn...did ya'll not read the article. It only said the man officially applied for the job.
ReplyDeleteGood grief...
Okay, Brogran started his career as a public school teacher in the 70's. He moved up to principal. From there, superintendent of the district. From there he was tapped to be commissioner of education under Lawton Chiles. Then lieutenant governor under Jeb Bush. Now, he's president at FAU which has expanded its academic offerings and influence dramatically under his leadership.
ReplyDeleteSeems to me, he's one of the better qualified applicants.
Have you seen the list of people who applied? I have. And its not pretty.
Brogan has the political clout to get the job done, and the educational know-how to help the schools.
He is the most logical choice. Either he, or Steve McNamara- education-policy wonk/ guru. Other than that, no one even comes close.
This one cat in here sounds like a lobbyist Brogan paid.
ReplyDeleteBrogan would be a lousy hire, as would the associate professor from FSU (guy's not even a full professor and wants to be chancellor? LOL).
The head of the Indiana CC System or the former head of the Ohio Board of Regents would both be EXCELLENT hires.
Too bad it's going to be another Good Ol' Boy Florida Cronyism hire instead.
