The Atlanta Classic might have caused many Rattler fans to think back to the Homecoming heartbreak of 2011.
The Southern University Jaguars went into halftime without a single point on the board, trailing 0-7. They returned to defeat FAMU, 21-14.
During last year's homecoming game, the FAMU Rattlers let a 21-0 lead slip away to lose to Howard University 29-28. The Bison scored all of their points during the second half. They put 29 points on the board during the fourth quarter, which included 15 in the last 1:27.
The Atlanta Classic was the second game of the season for Jaguar Interim Head Coach Dawson Odums. Odums, the team's former defensive coordinator, took over after former Head Coach Stump Mitchell led the team to a humiliating 6-0 loss against Mississippi Valley during a contest broadcast by ESPNU.
"If Coach Odums is not given the job tonight then something is wrong
over there in Baton Rouge," FAMU coach Joe Taylor told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "He certainly
had his team ready, and they played at a high level."
FAMU was paced by quarterback Damien Fleming as he passed for 256 yards as he completed 30
passes in 35 attempts with two TDs passes. Travis Harvey recorded his
third 100-yard game of the season as recorded eight catches for 108
yards with two TDs.
If Coach Odums had his team ready and playing at a high level, then what did Coach Taylor have the Rattler team prepared for.
ReplyDeleteWhy are we being outcoached in the final minutes of the game? I commend our defense for playing 60 minutes of football and to the defensive staff for encouraging and motivating the players. The offensive staff and Joe Taylor need to learn from them. Open up the playbook!
Has Coach Taylor passed his time?
It is time for Taylor to go. He is an honorable man and who recruits well, but FAMU has not been relevant since he has arrived. Unless I am forgetting something, FAMU has one shared MEAC Championship during the Taylor era and pretty much nothing else. This looks like another 8-3 or 7-4 season that ends without a playoff birth. FAMU deserves better.
