FAMU alumnus Greg Anderson, the screenwriter behind the hit film "Stomp the
Yard," will speak at the Inaugural Covey Film Festival in Thomasville,
Ga. on Wednesday, October 2.
Anderson, a 1996 FAMU graduate, is a partner and film president for Tri Destined Studios. Back during his days on The Hill, he was a member of the Playmaker’s Guild, Cinema Club, and Upsilon Psi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.
The inaugural Covey Film Festival, hosted by the Thomasville Community Resource
Center, will take place October
1-6. This festival will highlight films that address issues facing
children or young adults and which emphasize resiliency, hope and
perseverance. This year’s films include: "To Be Heard"; "Stomp the Yard";
"The Great Debaters"; "Fat Boy Chronicles"; "Jig"; "Beauty in Truth"; "Mickey
Matson and the Copperhead Conspiracy"; and "Beasts of the Southern Wild."
Additional
guests of honor include Lucy Alibar, screenwriter for "Beasts of the
Southern Wild"; Valerie Scoon, producer of "The Great Debaters"; Roland
Legiardi-Laura, filmmaker of the documentary, "To Be Heard" and two-time
Academy Award winner and current co-star of "The Butler", Jane Fonda, who
is founder of the Thomasville Community Resource Center. Fonda will be
the keynote speaker at the gala on October 5th addressing the power of
film to change the lives of children.
